Hi all, well I've made a few changes to my rangie. The new air( trumpet style) cleaner should be a bit stronger if the old girl backfires again. I have also been having a dead battery after a few days parked and am assuming its another small leak in the EAS. I installed a kit to allow air to be pumped in at a servo or by remote airpump and all was perfect for a while and i drove it to work and back for a week, 500 k's or as and i am guessing the movement has loosened something. i went on Range Rover P38 EAS modifications improvements and tips learned by experience by ownership. (http://www.stockholmviews.com/p38/eas-modification.html) , and did this little mod to stop the EAS constantly trying to level itself . i also wired in a 12v fan from a computer and screwed it to the top of my fusebox cover with a few holes drilled under it to try and keep the temp down a bit...might not do much but we will see. All seams to work well. Now it sits up at high and standard height overnight with no sagging or dropping. The problem, if it is one is that as soon as i turn the key on..it lowers all the way to lowest position. As soon as i push the height to rise it does so immediately. Does this tell anyone where my leak may be? or even if it has one...

Last night I went down to shed after about three days to find rear of car evenly lower than the front. With the self leveller isolated now I thought I might find one corner down , but both rear down and even puzzles me. I start the car and it drops straight to entry level, if I hit standard it rises straight away. If I park for more than 15 mins on uneven ground when I start again it wobbles around until it finds a level.I will try a soapy water spray again to see. I finished the new air intake...seams to be fine.

I thought about this but decided the danger of water ingress and consequent damage is worse than the long term effects of the heat.

Sorry in advance (especially to Ron) for the crap wording/grandma(!) of this response... but...
Isn't the fuse box issue a result of the "too short" overflow pipe on the expansion tank causing premature aging on solder joints and/or the over use of the heater relays due to blocked pollen filters causing clogged blend motors to be over stressed and/or jammed?

I sorted the overflow pipe issue by simply poking the end into a small (200ml) plastic drink container. The bottle stays upright ...doesn't need restraining. When the expansion reservoir is filled to the correct level when cold, it should not overflow.... if it does, suspect head gasket leak.... so there should be no fluid in the container... makes excellent visual check point;)

It seems to be a combo of those issues and especially RL7, I am looking at replacing that standard relay with a heavier duty one which should dissipate the heat a little better.
Also thinking about other ways to ventilate the box without compromising it's seal

I had a bit of trouble with the suspension on mine being unlevel and changing each time I parked it, I did the recalibrate the height sensor thing and all is much better now, the car sits level when parked and when in use.

A few years ago I externally mounted rl 6 and 7. Used 150 amp hella relays, and mounted them next to the ecu box under the battery cover. It was a second hand relay box though, so it's hard to make any assessment on it. They sure do get hot though, especially with the fans on high!

Hi all, some good ideas boys. The fuse box seal was never that good anyway on mine so assumed it was heating up from relays etc. Might not work but will test temps soon. The self levelling thing works great, except for the dropping to entry each time i start the car, resorted to putting it down first. Now, has not stopped the battery going dead in three to four days. Brand new battery mind you. I leave the key on the dash down in the shed so its near the car when i want to move it out of the way of the mower...will leaving the key in the car be causing the car to be alert for any reason, I've heard about rf frequencies and stuff but should i take key away from car?...not sure at all now why this is happening.
Also, I have put an add in everything else for sale for some landrover sandals, they are on gumtree too, bought new but too big for my feet.Check it out. Hoges, I will try the bottle idea as well, anything to help.

I just realised i have left my ELM27 bluetooth plug in the plug hole and would have been there for weeks and might be cause of flat battery...anyone confirm this?

Yes, I forget to disconnect mine all the time too. The new Kiwi2 adaptor has a low power mode to stop this from happening. I am thinking about putting a switch on the dash to turns the ODBII diagnostic port off, but I seem to remember there being two wires with 12v power on that socket, so it may not be dead simple.

Hi
I know some people have added a switch or a relay to only provide power when the ignition is on

thanks guys, yup, problem solved. Just need to trace slight air leak that drops car to lowest level as soon as i start it. have checed all the hoses, must be an air bag...oh well all else seams great at the moment otherwise....

FWIW,, my OBDII conector has been connected for months,, the discharge thing must be a P38a thing,,

I do not know what kind of power drain these things have, but I can confirm that the car supplies the power to run them.
There is a 5amp fuse in the fuse box for power to that socket.

mate
it's the fact that the ELM327 keeps waking up the BECM which eventually flattens the battery
