Hi guys,

Am wanting to cut the side walls off some truck tyres for garden beds.
What would be the best tool(s) to do this.

Thanks in advance.

cheers

As per pop's post, a reciprocating hacksaw. What the US websites will call a sawzall.

I have used a few things...

-Angle grinder... works, but don't try it unless you really have to :wasntme:
-jigsaw... works well with the correct blade, most accurate I have found.
-reciprocating saw... good for straight lines, inaccurate as all hell, do it this way if you don't care how it turns out.

Haven't tried it personally but a mate reckons it's easier if you have a hose dribbling on the cut. Apparently water is the cutting compound of choice for tyres.

Start by cutting the bead wire with bolt cutters or an angle grinder. This allows you to pull on each side of the cut. Rubber cuts remarkably easily when you put sufficient tension across the cut. Any sharp blade will cut it then. Sidewall rubber makes excellent replacement exhaust hanger rubbers.:)

I have only done car tyres, But a sharp sturdy knife, lubricated with water and detergent or that lanolin spray works.
