Hi all,
My 2006 Disco3 is stuck in park. The gear selector button is broken. I have tried using the small lever (underneath the fascia,) behind the "D" which should override the the switch and at least allow me to get her to the shop to be inspected. This isn't not working. I have also tried pulling the lever and button assembly off so I can try this too. No good either. The initial problem was I tried to twist the lever and button off... Is it possible I have done more damage this not allowing removal or the lever underneath to override the switch.... Please help!!!!

From what you say it sound like mechanical damage, but,

Can you hear the brake interlock solenoid click off in the console when you depress the brake pedal? If not, the gear shift lockout solenoid/circuit may be faulty, check fuses.

Hi Grappler,
I can feel the brake lock out operate when the brake is depressed. This is also the lever I am trying to activate from underneath.....

I should be able to do this but I cannot remove the lever.

This one explains the lever....

It was all good until I tried to twist it off.... Except for the button being broken. Damned if I know how I am going to get this to a landy specialist now...

Hmm, tricky

Are you stuck on the road?

You will need to at least find neutral in gb or transfer. Im pretty sure dragging it up a flat bed in park would not be recommended.

With some luck you will jag the release on the damaged selector and get moving

If the vehicle is safe relax and get some advise tomorrow on getting mobile or what preparation is needed for trnasport

If all else fails, and you need to transport, find a flatbed operator that uses wheel dollies or skids, and is familiar with transporting locked up constant drive vehicles

Good luck

So I managed to remove the gear knob and gained access to the selector assembly.... Which is broken (and I bet expensive,) now to disconnect the cable. Anyone able to supply information on how to do this??
Do I disconnect form the gearbox or does it somehow come apart from the selector assembly?

A bit of digging up the past but, I've done the same thing. I went to remove the knob by unscrewing, turns out id doesn't unscrew.
Now the button is jammed. When I remove the knob the white bit stays behind in the shaft from the gearbox.
The switch undernearh works and is activated by the brake pedal, but it won't move from park with the switch underneath in either position.

How did you end up resolving your problem?

Cheers,

Salty.

So the white bit is jammed won't move either way.

The knob pulls straight up with the white bit attached so I would see if you can remove it from the shifter then re attach the 2.

I broke the top off the white bit trying to get it out.
Now the lever moves freely when the brake is depressed. So it's not fixed but it works.

Salty.

On the outside of the right rear corner of the selector mechanism there is a white tab that whilst lifted/pressed down (I can't remember which way to move it) will allow the lever to be pulled out of park.

Yeah, Graeme that's right. I've found that tag and it also actuates with the brake pedal.
But the white centre of the shifter is well and truly jammed in. It's raised enough now not to hinder the movement of the gear selector.
I tried to remove it with a lot of force and ended up breaking off the top 5mm.
The selector works now, it's just the button on the selector no longer does anything. It won't move from park without the brake being depressed though, which is good.

The moral of my story is never try to twist off the gear selector.
