Missus is pregnant and having difficulty with getting into the 110. As it is our main daily drive, I need to fix this asap. I have tried to sell her the idea of rock sliders, so they serve a purpose well after the baby is born. She isn't taking the bait. She wants a proper step that she can trust not slipping on.
She wants a proper side step that is lower than the sill. Can anyone please recommend a side step, that is stronger than the LR factory option.
2014 110.
Cheers,
Dave

Spend $10 on a plastic stool while she is pregnant, save your coin for sliders that don't affect your ground clearance. Odd concept to jump out of the truck for a few months but it will pay off in the long run.. Temporary versus permanent.
Sorry for not answering your question but it begs to be smacked.

She drives it whilst I am at work. A plastic stool won't work. Thought of that.
The steps will be useful for the next couple of years at least whilst she has to strap the baby in to the baby seat etc. Won't be a waste of coin. Will be able to sell them at a later date if need be.

A rock slider will be ideal, it just had to be below the sill and we wide enough so she doesn't lose her footing.

not sure but save the money for fitting CRAB or anchor points for the kid's seat. My wife test drove the 110 after giving birth to our second and found it easier to reach into back seats to place kids (by comparison to stooping in to a nissan maxima).

Thanks Mekon. Already have the CRAB installed from my first child.
Looks like ill go with the heavy duty Landybitz steps. They are pretty much what I need, a cross between a step and a rock slider. Spoke to Justin and he was very helpful. Thanks for your responses.

Hi Dave , I have " Kingsley Sideboards " They are lower than the sills , have a sort of sand paper type strip , for grip . They are made from aluminum , and , with steel brackets . There not as strong as rock sliders , but then again there designed as side steps . They will protect your truck from car park damage , and they work fine off road . They make It so much easter to get in and out !!.. Jim :)

Whilst our baby making days are long over, we both are having trouble climbing into the Defender and having sold the full length ARB style side steps, we are currently challenged when climbing in.
There are a couple of short ARB steps on a wreck here that I will be fitting back on as they are better suited to our cab chassis Defender and with a mixture of sand and paint on the tread, they should be just the ticket for this pair of not so youngsters that have faulty springs in the legs.

My wife did this for both kids. We have some sliders that also double as steps.. but they are still too high for the last trimester.

My mate's parents were in a similar predicament to yourself. I recommended that they try these out.. STC7631 | Fold-down Side Step. (http://www.paddockspares.com/stc7631-fold-down-side-step.html) they bought one.. and within weeks bought another. Two pieces of advice..
1. Buy them and replace the springs with something seriously heavy duty.. the ones that come stock get slack and they tend to fold down on corrugations.. after they replaced the springs they have not looked back.
2. now they have an issue folding the step down when they need to get out. not sure what they do with that now.. I'll have to ask and update this thread.

Hi Dave , To honest not sure how to post photos , but did put in computer www.kingsleysideboards (http://www.kingsleysideboards) It comes up under ARB so maybe there own them , but they do sell them , plus bushranger 4x4 have a picture that are the same as mine . As Arthur says there are the Land Rover fold down type , there very similar to the rear fold down steps . I hope this helps Jim ..

Defenders have never been the easiest of cars to get into but at least they keep you flexible (or at least trying to be) :)

I guess we were lucky, as my wife is 175 cm tall and must have good "reach".
She managed to climb into the defender throughout her pregnancy without steps or sliders (and scoffed at my milk crate suggestion). In fact, our baby was a late arrival, so we did a bit of gentle gravel driving that evening to try and jiggle things up a bit :) (that was the snow photo I posted in another post).
I think the crate idea is still a worthwhile one. If your wife is driving one-up, she can sit the crate on the passenger seat.

My wife is 163 cm tall and finds it easy to get bubs in and out of the standard ride height defender. Did struggle a little bit in the rear facing position. I'd go for the lr folding step until you work out what you want.

Thanks for the advice guys. Have ordered the landybitz HD steps. Look good and also offer a fair bit of protection.
