Well, ripped another mud flap to bits. Wouldn't pay the money for the OEM ones which looked too brittle and put on a set of Chinese copies ($40 landed). Not so brittle but still plastic fantastic. I suppose at the at price I should buy a dozen sets. But is there an alternative? Something more rubbery?

Might not be the look you are going for but went through a constant flow of the regular genuine and aftermarket flaps until I make some custom out of the stuff that the rally cars use. I got it on ebay.. There are lots of pre-cut stuff that may be of varying quality so I just purchased a roll of it cut 30cm wide and made it up to suit.
The other trick is to stop them from getting caught under the tire when you are reversing - I think this is what destroys them for most people. I used a chain from a hardware store for mine. Doing this now may keep your current ones attached for a long time!

Great!.. I was thinking similar.. always helps when the sometimes random wanderings of my mind are proven to be sound when someone has already trodden the path with success!

there is always the old Clark Rubber cheap version - cut our 6 at a time and just replace the screws.... Mind you they Defender ones look nicer and the idea of a chain to hold them back when reversing (the cause of the demise of a few of mine!) is a good idea.
