I recently changed the brake light in my recently purchased RR Sport TDV6 2006 and not long after, the transmission wouldn't change up, just revved out. The message centre was telling me I had a transmission fault, the DSC disabled, suspension lowered and the ETC was not available. When I stopped I noticed the brake lights wouldnt turn off, but only when the lights were on. If the lights were off it all worked fine. Puzzled I spent a few hours researching various possibilities, as I didn't believe that all of a sudden I had a myriad of serious issues. A couple of learned fellows suggested it could be a faulty brake light globe. As I had just put a new one in, proudly purchased from the local supercheap store, I removed it. Sure enough the brake light problem and error messages have gone away. Next step - test drive and replace globe with genuine part and keep fingers crossed..

Jeffrey,

If you haven't done so already, hit up Gordon (gghaggis on this forum) for his excellent Terrain Response booklet that covers this and a lot more besides. Google 'Green Oval Experience' online and you can buy a copy there.

The ABS ecu thinks its doing the driver a favour advising of a faulty brake light. The problem is that various other ecus react to a brake system fault thinking they are doing the driver more favours, such as lowering the suspension to provide a better safety margin whilst the brake system is faulty. Stiff biccy if you're clambering over rocks in super-extended off-road height and don't have an after-market suspension height adjustment facility to be able to get back up from access height.
