I replaced one of these a year or so ago, from memory I believe the 4hp22 is used in the 4.0 and cant or shouldn't be used in the 4.6, as they aren't strong enough. But the 4hp24 can be used in both the 4.6 & the 4.0.. Someone with a little more knowledge here will be able to explain more but I fitted a 4hp24 (replacing a 22) to my1998 4.0 and is all good, no idea on ratios sorry

thanks for the info.i intend to install a v8 gear box in my td5. the v8 box has a extra fiber plate in the A clutch pack -a stronger c' - c' freewheel clutch & stronger planertry gear sets. the valve body is also the same. i tow a 2.9 ton caravan.i would also like to install the v8 torque converter as well.it has a stall speed of 2400 as to the td5 of 2800. i think the T. C . lock up clutch i s bigger as well. just need to make up a modded drive plate.

I would stop asking question here now and re-ask in the D2 Forum,,
There are LOTS of things you need to know before a swap.;):ohyes:
