at beginning of our 4 month trip, travelled from Melb to Adelaide , 2.5 ton van. On arrival we had a clunking noise when taking foot off brake or shifting gears. Solitaire Adelaide inspected and found knocking sound from driveline, driveline movement, leak from drive shaft and excessive play from front diff. Removed and replaced front diff and drive shaft. (46000klms) all under warranty. Good service. 6000 Klms later with some rough roads- all ok. Anyone had similar issues.:o

Funny, was just talking the other day to a guy in Wyndham caravan park with exactly the same issue as you describe :)

For my ex Prado (150) it had a service at 24k, they gave it I think a 48k service (the mileage was low for its 2012/3 age). Toyota changed all the differential lubrication.

i spoke to an authorised Mercedes repairer, and told him about buying a Discovery (Rolf Graunke in Ferntree Gully). I told him I would be changing the motor earl earlier and also the gearbox due to LR not specifying when. He said the Disco was pretty good re reliability, but that I should change the differential oils too.

Don't hear of that very often..

These things happen and it was all fixed.. Push it to the back of your mind ;)

If it was out of warranty, you could have put in a locking front diff. ARB still supply those to today's D4s. None available for the rear diff anymore ... shame as I don't have the e-diff.

Do they write D4s off, or repair them? Can one fit an e-diff (rear diff) from another wrecked Disco?? Or even buy one from a parts supplier and have it fitted?

Even if you find/buy one, the computers won't recognise it.

Yep, I thought as much.
