View Full Version : I put it in a safe place

Hello All,

Sometime early last year I put my close to brand new electric soldering iron "some place safe". I then had one of those days where I wanted to test a car battery and I found that the battery in the multimeter was flat. When I took the 9 volt battery out one of the terminals had corroded on. This meant that the terminal stayed attached to the battery and separated itself from the terminal clip. One of the wires also pulled out of the terminal

Easy fix it will just take me five minutes with the soldering iron and I will be back in business. Of course the safe place were I last stored the soldering iron was not forthcoming and it refused to relinquish its hold.

Today, after moving interstate for work and then coming back home, getting another job that involved intra-state travel I have had some time to fit a new battery clip. Because the safe place still has its relentless hold on the soldering iron, I went to a hardware store. It took me nearly half an hour to decide which one to buy do I want a two power iron or a single power, or a two power with a desk station?

Anyway, job done and I can put a battery back in my multimeter.

Where am I going to store the new soldering iron? Not in a bloody safe place that is for sure! What is the bet that the next time I go into my shed the old soldering iron will come out of its safe place.

Kind Regards
Lionel

Took me 18 months to locate a Salisbury diff spreader that I put away "in a safe place". Bloody CRAFT.

I am in the process of packing up my shed to move. Just quite amazing all the hidden treasures I have found hidden away over the last fifteen years. Yep and some stuff that I now have two of :)

I put a boat rego sticker in a safe place about 5 or 6 years ago. Yep, although I have turned the house over a couple of times, it's still safe.

I know a bloke who was given a loverley big mary jane anna bud,he wrapped it in foil then stuffed it up the centre of the foil tube for safe keeping.
He kept telling us somebody must of stole his bud as he had checked all his hidy holes.9 months later the police drug dog found it,he says he remembered putting it there when he saw the dog wanting to rip the foil apart.
Living proof one shouldnt smoke dope;););););)

I find that if something useful that I was not sure where it was turns up, unless there is an obvious proper place or immediate use for it, if where it is found does not have major disadvantages, best LEAVE IT THERE!. Seems that if you move it, later can readily remember where you found it but not where you put it if you later want it in a hurry. .

Also worth remembering this principle when designing and /or making something (including Land Rover modifications) and it includes trial and error. You find a bolt or some other piece that seems could probably be incorporated in the project. Then after more looking and thinking decide that it would not. Is a good idea to put this piece back where it was found. Because later you sometimes again want it as the project evolves and most often remember where this part was originally found rather than where it was left after initial rejection.

My MIL has Parkinson's and forgets things. She was packing to fly on a trip. Started packing 2 weeks before leaving. Kept forgetting she had packed things and then packed them again. Got to the airport and got chosen for a random bag inspection. They kept finding packets of medications in her socks, undies etc everywhere. Took some quick explaining by my wife to save her from getting carted away for drug testing. Forgetfulness can be embarrassing.

BTW, I could have sworn I had 7 grandchildren, but I seem to have misplaced one of them...

Well, the other day, I boiled the kettle to make a cup of coffee. I place my cup near the kettle, got the jar of coffee and sugar out. Then I got sidetracked, to show Mrs Aus something in the Aldi catalogue.

I came back on hearing the kettle boil, and poured the water in my cup, looked into the cup and thinks "hmm, that coffee looks kinda weak"

I forgot to put the coffee and sugar in, before pouring the water in.:o:wasntme:

I took the acoustic cover off the td5 years ago and put the dedicated bolts in a safe place.

When I sold the D2 in march I put the cover in the back but couldn't find the bolts.

I found them yesterday , standing out like dogs balls.

Hello All,

While I was looking for something else - as things seem to happen - I found my missing soldering iron. It turns out that it was not me who put the soldering iron away. My darling wife must have had a tidy up and put the soldering iron in a plastic multi-draw storage unit. Now I know where two soldering irons are. The second one is the one I bought when I could not find the my first one!

Kind Regards
Lionel

That sounds very much like the way I manage to "lose" things around here sometimes. :bat:

As I had to take the big trailer into town today for a pink slip, I needed the padlocks for the tow bar (in case I parked it while I went shopping) and for the toolbox. I looked everywhere for them, as they are common keyed with the ones on the spare and fuel cap on the County. Eventually, I gave up and found another two.

Yesterday, I was cleaning out the 2a for next weekend's expo - and guess what I found behind the seat? Yep! A ziplock bag with the two padlocks. So I was able to use them today. I still have no memory of putting them there!

Whilst I may be slightly younger than a few of you and don't believe I've lost my marbles just yet, I can relate to most of it.
So, there's at least a hole in my marble bag!

When my wifes father died & we were cleaning out the house we accidently found some money . We then looked in every pocket , box or anything that could hold money, even found $200 in an old Box camera. Total found around $2500 [smilebigeye]

Pfft lucky you.
My lost items are usually found in the first place I look.
I have discovered that a plane of reality shift takes place when the temporal energy of my need for the item and the harmonious energy of my spatial position lose synergy.
This means the item is exactly where I left it and will be exactly where I find/found it except the relative dimension in time may preclude the immediate conclusion to such a logical search.
Now, my mind....

If someone could tell me the "safe place" I put my "machinary cleanery" brushes in .... I"d be most grateful. I've spent many hours searching for them over the last couple of years :(

Machinery Cleanery Small brushes for cleaning and refinishing cast aluminium alloy surfaces of motorcycle engine and auto motor parts, motorcycle restoration, detail brush, stainless steel wire, nylon bristles (http://www.machinerycleanery.com/MCBrushInfo.htm)

Everytime I need to clean the gasket off an alloy housing I waste some time searching for them again. I think they'll be "safe" forever unfortunately.

Last year I needed something from my bottom shed, which is about 70m from the house. Just as I grabbed the keys the phone rang so, being cordless, I grabbed it and started talking to a mate, all the while wandering down to the shed. (The phone is a Uniden with external range extender)

Get to the shed, unlock a door, sit on the tractor bucket and chat to my mate for another 10 mins.
On hanging up I stood, took a couple of steps and then realised that I had no idea of why I was at the shed!!!!

To this day I have no idea! Couldn't have been too important but it played on my mind for a while. [bigsad]

When we cleaned out the in laws place,I picked up a plastic stool to put it in the trailer with a heap of stuff to take to the recycling place.
I felt something move in the stool, pulled it apart and found a couple of $K in notes.

We recon it was her pokey money....

People put cash away and then forget where they put it so they get more.

I'd like to find some of the $millions which some companies keep losing. I'll look after it better than they do.

With age, comes inefficiency, I can do that in a lot less than 70 metres/10 minutes. [bigrolf]
