Hi Guys,

a 92 Range Rover with borg warner transfer and slugomatic gearbox. I've just been changing all the oils. Other than the 3 billion pumps that "High Capicty" :censored: 1 litre oil pump required this was a really simple task.

I was sure everything would be empty 'cos it doesn't drip at all ( bizzare ... a little wet underneath, but not a single drip under it ever). Anyway, everythng was at capacity except the transfer case that I just drained 2litres of stinky gearbox oil from .................................... I thought this was supposed to contain 1.7litres of ATF ?? That's what the manual says ??

Do I need to go buy another bottle of gearbox oil, or is ATF ok to use in the borg warner transfer case :wasntme:

seeya,
Shane L.

The viscous transfers in the RRC were always ATF. I can only assume a workshop has not been aware that it's a viscous unit & stuck in what they normally use for Discos & older RRCs.

Use a high quality synthetic ATF in the transfer case.

Or neo synthetic Hi vis MVP ATF. (7wt) if you plan on doing a desert trip ;)

I'm hoping the transfer case or slugomatic gives up the ghost at sometime in the next 12months ................... This will give me the excuse to stick a proper gearbox with LT230 in there  I've never liked slugomatics!
