Is it possible - with the lift up door handle mechanism as found on Perenties - for a passenger to get out, lock the door and then shut it so that it is still locked? How about on the early lift up handle 110s?

My Perentie's locks don't seem to want to shut and lock, but that doesn't mean its meant to be that way!

Not to my knowledge. The only way to lock the door from the outside is with the key once the door is closed.

Can be locked/unlocked from the inside with the lever (eg. if you have a soft-top or if the person exiting the driver's door does it)

That is the way they are - same as the early 110s or late Series 3.

Interestingly, this has been the case with most of the cars I have ever owned!
