It must have had a sheltered/pampered life as the roof pillars haven't rusted thru.

Ahhh... the old iron pig.
Big rust problems I've heard, and also love to roll over in mud, so it does look like it's been pampered :p
For an old truck, I reckon an old toyota like this or an international scout would be a mad ride.

Full of bog????
Had a couple of mates with them in the 80's,theirs had holes in the roof you could put your hands in back then.
It must have been sheded and kept away from salt.Back then they were quite comfortable and powerful,if you could keep the fuel up to them. Both mates had 4BBL holleys on theirs.AWESOME on the beach, fishing weekends away were expensive as we dibbed in for the fuel between us.
My first 4x4 was a 73 shorty forty softop with a 350 chev,it didnt use any where near the fuel them blokes used.I could only carry 1 passenger, going 1/2 in the fuel was less than going 1/4 in them buggers!!!! Still was expensive when stuff broke!!!! My Bro got a yellow sticker on it during the Americas Cup.Had 1 bloke in the front,4 in the back sitting on the sides, dropped the clutch on South tce, stood it up on the back wheels which was easily done and spilt the 4 in the back on the road,in front of mounted police.Once the sticker and clutch were fixed I sold it.
Then I got a Ser2 88" with a 186,now that was an awesome 4x4

There something about the FJ55's (not the rust obviously) that really appeals to me.
There used to be a mob around Redcliffe that may fibreglass replacement panels. The lack of FJ55's around the place seems to have put an end to that.
In an ideal world I'd put one of these bodies on a RR chassis and running gear - then when all the Toyota fan boys start cheering its performance - reveal the beautiful truth ! :lol2:

My first 4WD - replaced by the '83 Rangie.
The roof rusted out just above the gutters. It had been bogged up and resprayed and I was naive about Cruisers.
There was rust elsewhere, too.
The 55 died in a river crossing.

they were an absolutely horrible vehicle to drive.....in all aspects.....noisy, hot , rough ride , extremely thirsty , dust came in everywhere , rain leaked in....and they were expensive in their day......and that bone jarring leaf suspension.....
I drove them in the NT as part of my job , many govt agencies bought them..vis police , nurses , construction , but they were unpopular.
The far superior choice at the time was the F100.
I was in the Darwin Land Rover club then and we used to recover so many of them we wouldn't do it for less than a carton......friendship was put aside due to getting sick and tired of being asked to pull one out every time we went away for a relaxing weekend.
.....or.....they fitted large sunraysia wheels and tyres then broke axles.
do you get the idea I didn't like them?

Nothing good can be said of that model Tojo
I wouldn't go so far as to say that myself because they are the predecessor of the extremely competent (at everything) 200 series wagons.
The concepts of the FJ55 were good......it didn't really come to fruition until the 80 series.

Interesting reminder.
As a young bloke I remember these being released.
Valley Heights volunteer bushfire brigade had recently completed building the local fire trail
A 55 showed up with the head Fire Controller in it at a creek crossing which was being maintained during a working bee.
To a man the 55 was universally loathed and the laughter and annoyance of the crews remains a memory after it had to be recovered a number of times. I recall it ended its life on its roof.
Series2a were the mainstay of the brigades and an array of ex military trucks for the tankers.
Old Blitz and Studebakers were the norm.
My Landy affection was shaped in those years.

I might be showing my age but I recall dad looking at one around 1969?? I think it was about 25% more than the new Ford wagon he bought instead..

I used to own one, there's no credit due. It was PIG by name, nature and rego plate. :D
I sold it to a wrecker and twelve months later, whilst delivering scrap metal to Sims, saw it come in with a couple of other carcasses. The electro magnet couldn't lift it, fibreglass and bog is like that. ;)
