I can see this has been covered a bit but I can not seem to find a definite answer.

Can the RRS front lower control arms be used as a direct replacement in a D3?

cheers

Hi Will Wallace,
I'm pretty sure they fit however I haven't fitted them to a D3. I think there is some difference, something about the anti roll bar, maybe it is just a bigger diameter. I do know that the RRS sport arms are a stronger build than the D3 ones.

I usually only like to comment on something I have actually done. Sorry I can't be more help.

Cheers Marty

I have fitted the RRS arms to my D4 and am pretty sure they also fit the D3.Contact Steve at 003HD HEAVY DUTY FRONT LOWER ARM KIT HD ON DISCOVERY 3 - STANDARD ON RRS MODELS (http://www.advancedfactors.co.uk/003hd-heavy-duty-front-lower-arm-kit-hd-on-discovery-3---standard-on-rrs-models-101182-p.asp) he will advise compatibility.

I notice Advanced Factors have a Lemforder Kit for around $520 and a Superpro kit for around $730. Is there any difference?

Some say with the Super Pro bushes the ride is not as smooth as the original bushes, although they should have a longer life.

Hi Eddy,
The ride is shocking, I replaced my Polybush bushes with originals about three months after I had installed them. Easy to fit etc however the down side is the harshness of the ride and road noise.

Cheers Marty.

Is it really that easy? I had the impression from what I read that it wasn't worth rebushing, I've just bought a pair of LCAs from advance factor but have not fitted them yet, though I don't intend to throw the old ones away just yet incase rebushing is easier than I have read.

The special tools in the pdf are what put me off, am I wrong?

The car in question is far from factory. Bull bar, winch, spotties etc etc. Hence the want for the uprated bushes.

I would doubt that many dealership's have these "special" tools.

Yeah sure , I did the whole job at home if you don't have a press someone near by will be able to press them back in for you. I'd rebush as spares I did a whole thread with photos on changing bushes in a d4 I think it got moved to tutorials section. Hardest part is getting old bush out but if you follow my instructions you won't have a hassle

Marty,Were they the solid bushes or the blue 'splined' Super Pro bushes?

Go stock bushes so many posts on here saying how bad the poly ones are, I work on heavy vehicles and don't put them in as an upgrade unless the manufacturer does , the bushes from Lr are hydro elastic tombie gives a good explanation in one of the threads.

The RRS ones are different from the D3 bushes.
The RRS bushes from what I have read are a heavy duty jobbie for the armoured D3, to deal with the extra weight.

Yep but presumably RRS bushes are heavy duty hydrolastic rather than solid poly. Explanation of hydrolastic versus poly in this thread:

I'm not sure if that's the bushes or the actual control arms that are heavier duty? Les Richmond quoted me $700 to swap the arms using their solid rubber bushes, and then stung me for $1500 cos of the RRS arms being different and their bushes not fitting.

Incidentally they didn't give me back the old arms, saying they're basically a worthless throwaway item. So if anyone's looking to upgrade...
