Drivers seat height adjustment. Has anyone else noticed that the height adjustment self lowers occasionally? What is the mechanism? I know I have put on a few kg but its not that bad....:o

You (or someone else) are probably pushing down the height adjustment lever beside the seat when getting in and out of the car. You push it down to lower and pull it up to raise the seat.

Actually I have noticed this. I always seem to be putting it up and I don't think my wife is changing it (only two drivers). I'd swear it must move down but it's imperceptable. The mechanism could be getting bumped but I don't think so.

A bit out there, but do you have the seat memory option? If so, you may be pressing the buttons accidentally and be getting an alternative lower setting by accident. It happens to me occasionally as I hit the memory button with my elbow.

The manual seat height adjustment does not maintain height, slowly drops over a few days. I had it looked at, had parts replaced etc. In the end I gave up and got use to sitting in it at its lowest height setting. :(

That sounds like my experience, although I haven't had it looked at.

I've read that placing a stiff foam or other block under the lever so it can't be pushed down fixes the problem. The more you need the seat higher the more chance you'll bump the lever getting in and out.

Interesting,I dont think Ive ever messed with the height adjustment,Aaron rang me about it.
I sat in the thing in the showroom when it was delivered and was very comfy so left settings as they are.Being rather large I probably dont need elevating;);););)

Mine doesn't go down, ever. But if I sat on the lever when getting in and out I think it would, as I said above. I always have it at the highest setting.

Both my D3 and D4 have had manual seats that that lower over a few days. Its a very common fault and has been with the car since the beginning. Being a short arse I always thought I was resting on the lever when getting out of the vehicle. In both cars the dealer replaced the mechanism but no luck. Eventually they replaced with an electric adjustment in the D3 and then the D4 and I haven't had a problem since.

Is it that big of a problem?
Just give the handle a couple of pumps ever few days & you are back where you started from.
Sorry, just don't think it's something to stress over.

I just had to shift the D4 out of the shed.I tried the height adjuster,it seems to only lift the rear of the seat, offering less support for the thighs as it gets higher. Is this right,or is there a second adjuster???
I lowered it back as I normally have it,much more comfortable for me.

Hi Andy.
Mine uses the same bar for both front and rear adjustment.
Should have said that you push the front or rear of the bar as appropriate.

We took our 2014 D4 back to the dealer as my seat dropped down after about 3 hours drive. the mechanism got replaced and now it takes a whole day to go down.
as previously said it is only a couple of pumps to get it up again, better than having to leave the vehicle for another day at the dealers then have to clean up the mess on the roof lining that was left behind.

Maybe it's not a big deal, but the point is after shelling out over 80 large should that be good enough and to me it's not.
I have driven plenty of cars that cost way less than a Discovery does & their seats stayed at the height I selected.
People say it's an LR thing, to me that's a cop out, if other manufacturers can do it, why can't LR.
Either that or make electric seats standard, which at the current price point they should be anyway.
Cheers

Signs that your Discovery thinks you are too fat:
As you jump in the car, you have to give the seat adjustment a few quick pumps to raise the height after you last used it.
As you start the car, the car has to adjust the suspension height.
And when you park the car, as you walk away you hear a sharp, pointed, sigh of relief, glance quickly over your shoulder and catch the car re-adjusting the suspension to relevel the car.
How rude ! 😕 😀😀

Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried very high density foam for the last 5 days and it works. :D I have not had to adjust the seat at all. I like the seat high to give me maximum view and previously had to pump the seat every day. Must be the way I get in and out.

Yeah, really funny, if you're prepared to accept something which shouldn't happen and what now seems to be a design flaw, well good for you.
I am well aware how the EAS works, however, last time I looked, having the suspension re level itself bares no relation to a seat having to be adjusted every other day.
Oh and by the way, I am not fat
But indeed, how rude.

Steady on there Tiddy, my post was not in reply to yours but rather just to add some light relief to the quirks of our beloved Discos.
In all seriousness it is good to know it was just not me noticing that my seat keeps sinking when I use. And I am a skinny bugger!
:)
....now did I mention my signs that your Disco may have a drinking problem....perhaps another day... :p
