Yup, certainly looks like one. They are harmless and if they are in an area where they could be harmed (ie a cat or dog) I throw a towel over them and move them. ( the lizard, not the cat or dog) Believe it or not they actually have a blue tongue.

They are also a natural control for snakes as they eat the eggs. They will possibly,if you really really reeeaaaalllyy annoy them, give you a bite that can turn nasty. So there might be a snake or two around as well.

well my elderly neighbor keeps calling up the council saying there are snakes in her back yard and its my fault.
i havnt found a single snake just this blue tongue.
so either there are snakes in her yard and they dont like my yard.
or her eyesight is bad and she thinks the blue tongue is a snake.

All the snakes that WERE in your yard have moved next door to the elderly neighbor's place since your blue tongue has moved in ! :p
No problems then ? ;)

If you pick it up you need to be vewy, vewy careful as they'll crap all over your hand and it really, really stinks.

Hence, the reason for me throwing a towel over them plus (as mentioned) a bite from them can turn nasty. They are also protected wildlife.:) I have moved a couple ( probably the same one coming back) and had no problems.:)

I catch them around here and after removing all the ticks they usually have let them go,they are good at cleaning up snails also. Pat

The dog used to find them at our place. The problem with them is that they are territorial.i would coax them into a bucket and put them in the bush next door, only to find it would be back in the same place the next day.
The dog didn't hurt them, just tried to play and bark at them.We have now trained her to leave them alone.
As for the echidna that appeared the other night,it just moved off and i haven't seen it again.:)
And the whip snake today, they are quicker than lightning. One minute you can see them, look away and they are gone.

I spotted a blue tongue near my herb garden a few days ago. He went into hiding as soon as he spotted me. Anyone know if they are partial to the odd herb?

Hi,
I have never had a blue tongue bite break through the skin.
They have a strong jaw, but nothing to stress about, they let go soon enough.
Cheers

Unlike the bite from a bearded dragon.
The dog stirred one up when i was a kid,i still have the scar on my thumb, the cut had to be stitched up.
I reached down to grab the dog by the collar and it jumped up and latched on.

Hi,
Yep, I'm wary of reptiles I'm unfamiliar with. Some carry a toxic mix in their jaws.

We have 6 regulars in the garden, apparently they mate for life.
Happy to feed them as many strawbarries and tomatoes they can eat. They love snails, interesting to watch in summer when there is a thunderstorm with enough rain to wake the snails up.Bobtails playing Pac Man:cool::cool::cool::cool::cool:

I was reading an article the other week about mating for life. Supposedly the only animal on the planet that truly attempts it is us. In all other cases examined they found long term mates but no species except us that has truly stayed with only one mate.
Love blueys. Have a few in my yard. A big old giant and a few young ones. The kids love to look at them.

yea, Guiness loves them too,,
while they may be territorial, the "new ones" always seem to inhabit the same places,, making Guiness's job easier :(:(:(

Ahhhhhh it all makes sense now.
We have several blueys as pets for the kids.
Often i wonder where my stash is gone and now i know.
I had put it down to short term memory loss but now i feel a lot happier i can blame the bluey.
