Hi There,
This is what I would regard as a normal noise I am just wondering what it is. When I turn the ignition on there is what sounds like a high speed whining noise, not sure it is there when the engine is running. Turn the engine of and the noise continues on after the ignition has been turned off, possibly for two minutes or so.
Is this some sort of pre and post engine running lube system? Something to do with the fuel system?
Cheers Marty

Hi Pedro,
Appears to be coming from the engine bay area, not passengers side underneath. The frequency is a lot higher than the air compressor. I have only noticed this noise on the TDV8's not the V6 or V8 4.2.

Marty, I have always heard the same (or similar) thing with my TDV6 in the D4, both ignition on but not running and also after turning off for approx 1-2 minutes. I vaguely recall reading somewhere what it is but can't for the life of me remember what now sorry.
Cheers,
Scott

I have a D4 and wondered what a high pitched noise on the passengers side was. Expert opinion here was that it was the computer doing it's thing before shutdown. Could be something similar ???

Hi Letherm,
Sounds a bit more mechanical than a computer. I had the Faultmate hooked up this morning checking other things out, must have been on for about 10 minutes without the engine running. The noise I described never went off, turned the ignition off, ran for another maybe 2 mins and turned off.
It is a "normal" noise I know it is nothing to worry about just curious........
Thanks LRD414, no doubt it will all coming flooding back when someone recalls what it is.
Cheers Marty.

Our 08 freelander 2 did that noise - I thought it might be something to do with the diesel return system from the injectors ?
Or could it be a vacuum pump for the brakes ?

My MY14 D4 has a high pitched noise when the ingnition is switched on and shut down, comes from the LH front.I dont think its a fuel pump, but the noise is similar.
Try it without the scanner attached,it may be stopping the ECUs from shutting down.

I don't think "the noise" ever lasts more than 30 secs on ours
