This is quite smart..

Welcome to Bog Out Vehicle Recovery Device (http://www.bogout.com/)

Cant' say I'd want to roll them up and put back into the car after using in a bog hole ..... but still. I can't see why it wouldn't work :)

Yeah, but what if you have no traction on the other wheel? If you don't have a diff lock, then that one just starts spinning, so I think in a lot of situations you would need to do it to both wheels.

Thats a pretty cool idea. Its a good $600 to get two 4.5m straps plus two 30m ropes tho.

Better than something like maxtrax?

Cheers

You have to do both wheels.... So it would be slowish to setup as you need to setup both wheels on whichever axle your using. It's probably easier to carry a tirfor, but still, nifty idea :)

That's pretty good - as long as you have something to tie it on to.

Simple idea. You could make a set at home with some seatbelt webbing and a sewing machine without too much trouble!

Hi,
So how to get it off with out driving back in to the bog again? It has to be unwound again to get it off.

Or am I over thinking the problem (again (or should that be still))?

Cheers

Good point. looks like you have to jack up each wheel to get them off....

Just drive on them until you are out of the bog hole or past the obstacle ..... then drive backwards and they'll roll back out for you :)

Apart from the room they take up,max trax would be way better in nearly all circumstances.

My 2 cents worth

Too fiddly, file it under gadgets. Like most gadgets, as long as you choose the location or the condition under which you use them they work very well. In the real world however....

Would it not be great fun to try and attach them to your wheel when you are bogged in a mud hole and have water over the wheels, especially in some real sticky mud with the gaps in the wheel rim filled with mud.
Be totally useless if you had solid rims.
You would also have to be aware that the strap does not get tangled with any low hanging body parts / cables / wires as it is being used.
It has its place but not in the back of my Disco!

Made for 6 stud wheels. That's a lot of gear to carry IMO. A tirfor, cable and some shackles would take up much less room.

Can just see you on the working end of a Tirfor:whistling:

When i was a kid the old man used to send us off with the Tirfor and a mattock, to pull out tree stumps. That was bloody hard work.

We used to try to break the shear pin,and when we did, he always seemed to find another one somewhere:(

Well i suppose it did keep us off the streets…

We have done something similar to this with a couple of old truck straps I had in the back.

Got into a situation where we couldnt go back (bridge was out) and were having trouble getting up a particularly steep and slippery (red clay) hill.

Neither of the vehicles had a winch, so after almost giving up I got these old straps out, tied one to the front bottom of each front wheel and the other end to very conveniently located trees, and slowly crept up as they wound around the wheels.

Was hard going as the strap kept slipping off the wheel and had to stop a couple of times and re strap, but it got us out of a difficult bind.

The lesson I learned from that....get a winch.
