Had a session this week chasing big Kings off Sydney. To get the big fellas you need live squid which proved a problem trying to catch. 4 hours to catch 4 squid then off to the secret spot.

Drop the first and smallest of the squid and within 10 seconds my rod loads up big time. 80lb braid 130lb leader and the reel drag wound up tight and locked - if you give them any line they will run you over the reef and its all over Irene.

Half way through the tussle the rod loads up then BANG, my two piece Gladiator 30kg jig stick turns into a 5 piece.

I had to revert to my soft plastic rod and undo the drag to keep fishing this led to being busted off a few times. Managed to get another three fish on board all around the 1.1m mark. Kept two for distribution to family and friends.

I have written to Gladiator and posted on their Facebook page as the rod is only 6 months old and has done bugger all work.

Still to hear from them. When I bought it I told the guy exactly what I wanted it for and was assured this is the stick for you. Should have bought a T Curve.

Nice, too bad about the rod, here's hoping they do the thing for you.

Nice kingies...
Definitely should a bought a t curve ... I love the 300 spin. The 200 is great for trout but lacks when in 40plus chasing reds. The 300 has the grunt for 10kg reds but is still sensitive enough for trout. The 400 is a liitle too stiff for mine.

Them size kings the 200 or 300 would roll nicely. 300 would give you a bit more reserve if a donkey mosied along.

Gladiator came to the party. They said they don't usually replace broken rods as they break for a myriad of reasons. They gave me a brand new top shelf jig rod for cost $100. Usually $680.

Now off to find a few bigger kings to give it a real workout

That's good of them to come to the party.

$580 profit normally :o . No wonder my boss buys everything online from OS.

Chops, About to say that myself, and especially that most of the top brand rods are made in China where it costs nix for labour!
