Hi,
I am currently looking at purchasing either a 2012 HSE or a 2013 TDV6 and was wondering what peoples thoughts are on the two.
The vehicle will be used mainly for towing our horses and camping trips.
As this will be our first Land Rover, any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Hse (sdv6) any day - just more grunt (for your towing - I imagine with horses you will be approaching the 3,5t limit) & more nice bits - is it an 8 speed ?

Thanks for the reply. I believe the 2012 HSE still has the 6 speed. We are sitting around the 3100kg mark with both horses on board.
The HSE does have a few nice features. The factory SATNAV helps.

Try for the 2013 for the 8 speed.

Thanks. After driving the 2013 model, it does feel smoother and the rotating gear lever is an interesting idea. Although slighty apprehensive if it ever plays up. Can't help to think that it wont be easy to overide if it fails.

The HSE has a lot more going for it than just Sat Nav when compared to a TDV6 spec model. Sure a 8 speed is a real good thing but is it enough of a reason to go from the top spec model with nearly all the bells and whistles standard to the lowest spec model in the range?

I actually like it a lot. You can over-ride it by removing the cup holders, and disengaging the transmission from Park (same area as to release the handbrake), such as if you need a tow when the car has died completely.
[Edit] As someone else said, the 8 speed 2013 HSE would be the best.

Thanks for that. The 2013 HSE would be fantastic. Unfortunately just above our price bracket. I think we have settled on the 2012 HSE.
Now time to look at accessories...

The 2012 HSE is a very good thing, you will be well pleased with it.
Don't forget to put up some pics when you get it.

We pick it up this week. 2012 D4 HSE with 57000km. It will be getting the electric brakes fitted next week. I have opted for the new Red Arc tow pro kit.
I am now on the lookout for a bull bar and cargo barrier. Any suggestions?

Nice!!
I like the ARB bar and would get that too. I guess the accessories are dependent on what you do but definitely a dual battery for a fridge and snorkel if driving dusty roads.

Well done and congratulations. This thread will give you some good leads for cargo barriers:

Here it is.
Electric brake controller is first and we build on it from there. These cars are absolutely fantastic.
