I remember when doing GOE course and we tried the emergency height selection, my car didn't do it. Not to take up time I just moved on but was worried it may be malfunctioning.
Wel yesterday I needed it for real and again it didn't work.
Anyone else had any problems and advice before I go and try my luck with land rover service department!?

Emergency height is only available if it has already gone into extended height. I suggest you need to try it in your driveway, by putting your D4 into offroad height - then place a jack/block of wood under the chassis rails. Then press the lower height button - the D4 will pick up it is grounded and raise itself to extended height. Once that has happened - then you can select emergency height.

My guess is you were not at extended height, so it wasn't selectable.

I tried it in my driveway when I was trying to wash underside - couldn't get it to work - but mine did work on Gordon's course

What was your terrain response set to on your driveway?

I also have not used extended mode since Gordons course but maybe I should practice. I remember the brake being required, I assume you followed the manual it might be the first thing the dealer asks. See the extract below.

EXTENDED MODE
If the vehicle's body is raised (e.g., by jacking)
or grounded in severe off-road conditions, the
system may automatically enter Extended mode.
Symbols in the raise/lower switch will flash and
the Message centre will display SUSPENSION
IN EXTENDED MODE. The suspension can rise
automatically to assist in clearing the obstacle.
Once Extended mode height has been achieved,
the driver may request additional lifting, if
required. This is achieved by pressing up and
holding the raise/lower switch for longer than
3 seconds, while pressing the brake pedal.
Extended mode is cancelled by pressing down
on the raise/lower switch or when the vehicle's
speed confirms that the body is no longer lifted
or grounded.

Cheers Craig

I washe a few kilos of mud off it this morning and tried the extended/ emergency setting again. 1st try no luck. Then a reread of GOE book and found it said to be in rock crawl mode, did this and success!!!
So much easier to wash with the extra height!
I'm going to get some of GOEs height adjusters :)

If you have Llams fitted then you can have access height -20mm at the turn of a knob, which feels like it is sitting on the bump stops.
Another good reason for Llams is you don't need a Jack or block of wood to get to extended height, again just a turn of the knob in the other direction.

Personally I reckon a Llams kit is the most useful and convenient accessory a D3/4/RRS can have fitted.

Its on my list Terry.I would actually find the lowering most benificial when my back is playing up,low is about 1" too high when Ive got the olde siatica playing up.

Ok now that's working I want more control!
Just wondering will the IDD tool do what the Llams will?
I know it'll height adjust but will it allow you to be in off-road height at above 50km/hr and set low mode for highway driving?

It's the ease of control having LLAMS, it's all at your fingertips any time. ;)

Yes it will but as Rich said, not with the same ease/convenience.

The iiD is able to save preset calibration settings as "favourites". So you could have one for Offroad and one for Extra Low and one for Extended for example. Initially you have to setup these presets (the process is explained in the manual). Then to select one you would stop, plug in the tool, navigate to the preset menu and choose the one you want, then disconnect the tool. With Llams, you turn the dial to the required height mode and it reacts in about 5 seconds while you keep going.

Llams has a Recovery Mode that allows you to get back to normal height if the vehicle has dropped to Limp height due to an ABS fault. Not sure if the iiD could achieve this but haven't actually looked into it. One option would be to clear the fault(s) and pull the suspension fuses. If the fault(s) persist, I'm not sure if the iiD height calibration presets would work. But note that this is arguably an obscure scenario that's difficult to test, so not a primary reason for choosing.

I have both Llams and iiD. One for height control and one for fault reading/clearing and displaying live values. This approach is obviously more expensive.

Scott

The new rods will give you both lowering (-20) and raising (+65) functions. A cheap alternative, but requires you to stop and get out of the car.

Its a shame that Llams doesnt operate with the earlier L322's as it would help me greatly.

Thanks for that Graeme. Didnt realise that it could be used in the early L322s.

I know Gordon, I went to order them the other day but you are out of stock so my mind started wandering to other gadgetry, I was thinking if I was getting the IDD tool for the other things it does then maybe I could make do with it for adjusting height and save a few dollars, I'm in the poor man's LR after all!

Oh and your course helped me from having a heart attack as I took on a steep gravel track with a deceiving washout at the top, as the front right wheel went in the air around 1m (onlookers guess without camera...damn) with rest of the wheels on a 45+ degree track I was settled by remembering you saying these things had a very low centre of gravity!!!!
I was amazed by the Disco and it's still on the crappy HT tires although they got some wearing that day!

I have always preferred your rods over other options as its simple.
Have the specs of the rods now changed?

The old version you did (as seen in the pic of the D3 below) I've always set them at the middle option, most owners have left it at that and have been happy with the results.
Discovery 3, 4, Range Rover Sport (http://www.aztech4x4.com.au/page_20.html)

The pic of the silver D3 on your website looks quite a bit higher (is that the silver D3 that I've seen a bit over in Bentley?)

Yes, the 2ways are STD and +65mm, the 3ways are -20mm, STD and +65mm.

They're available, but made to order, so usually a week or so to delivery.
