Hello, am I right in thinking that there is an electrical connector to the water sensor? The water sensor attached to the fuel filter.
Thanks
Julian
Yes there is, but what are the part numbers? I find it hard to search on Microcat

Yes it should have a plug ;)

Better dont bother with it, let the filter with it's own plug and isolate well the sensor's wiring/plug to not touch earth, the sensor is too sensitive and just gives you unnecessary warnings, as long as you replace the filter at decent periods you dont need it, tha's why LR didnt even fit one to later modells, also it's connected on the pump supply fuse and it can go wrong to blow the fuse then you'll not know instantly why the engine is powerless or not running
in a nutshell: IMO it's useless

Damn, I just bought one, and the plug on the wiring loom is full of dirt!!
Ah well, I might put it on just to see the light on the dash at start up.
What fuse do I look at? in case it blows.
Thanks

The light on the dash would do the self test no matter if the sensor is there or not cos the self test for warnings is managed by the instrument pack, the involved fuse is F10 engine bay(same for fuel pump relay)

Not much use to you now, but my 2003 Td5 manual has the sensor fitted from the factory, but also the function of the dash light disabled. AFAIK the 2004 models didn't even have the sensor fitted.

Why do you say that rubbish when my 04 has one fitted from new and the light functions aswell:confused:

I'll be more specific now that I have checked, VIN numbers from 3A838204 did not have the water sensor fitted from the factory, according to Microcat. See screen shot.
My 07/03 compliance plate (VIN 3A810XXX) has the sensor, but the dash warning light is disabled.
I have seen a LR document somewhere on the internet that mentions this function being disabled and the the sensor being removed due to too many false activations. As yet I haven't found it.
EDIT:- Found a thread that also mentions it being disabled, still trying to find the LR doc.

My 2002 has a sensor and the light self tests and it has never come on falsely or otherwise.
Maybe because I change the filter every time I change the oil.
Personally I think they are a great idea. Lots of people pay hundreds for a Waterwatch which is basically the same sensor fitted into a bowl!!LOL

Mine was removed by a workshop and the light on the dash stopped coming on for self test.
I liked it so bought a new one (and a spare), refitted and the light comes on for test again.
I have had no false warnings or any warnings - probably as it gets changed every 10,000 km and hopefully buy good fuel. I have not found any water when I changed the filter.
But happy to have it there JUST IN CASE!!! :)

I've found Gorilla hands are usually responsible for the sensor false alarm.
The sensor is cheap, just change it and maintain the benefits it provides.
Why anyone would remove a reliable, cost saving system from a 4WD is beyond me.
As said before- it's an after market expense on many other brands and far from useless.
If the connectors are full of dirt, clean them and replace the seal which is most likely missing from the connector- probably lost during a filter change.
It's just poor vehicle maintenance/abuse nothing else.

Mine developped an internal short at the beginning of my D2 ownership and blew the fuse which stopped the pump, at that time i knew nothing about how a D2 works and paid serious money for recovery and diagnostic cos the mechanic was incompetent and spent two days to realise why the fuse keeps blowing ... so maybe for some knowlegeable guys is a gain but IMO it can make more damage than the benefit of a warning which will never show up as long as the filter is changed at decent intervals ... due to it's position and poor design for those who are doing much off-road where it can be hurt or wading is an unnecessary source of failure IMO
not the case for Australia but in those countries where the winter is hard and they drop salt on the roads it is a real PITA as it gets ingressed with salted dirt and becomes completely erratic
