Front tow hitch on D4

How strong is the front tow hitch/eye on the D4,is it good enough to snatch a fully loaded D4 or do I need to make/purchase a more robust item?

The centre points front and rear (behind the plastic covers) are for recovery, not tie-down. LR will not rate them (neither do any manufacturers), but the G4 team and LRE estimate them rated at twice GVM. We have been using them for 6 years on various cars for multiple recoveries (winch, tow, snatch) without issue.

And this video has been shown on here before .... doesn't directly prove anything about the recover points as they used a lifting frame to the chassis but still a good demonstration.

On our Horrocks fishing trip we saw a very similar to Aaron40s D4 in the same van park,it had a badly bent recovery point,must have tried recovering a tank????
Not up there I bet they had it bogged to the eyeballs somewhere,we went close a few times.It was very soft.

Could have been a poorly executed snatch recovery i.e. fly off at 100 miles and hour before the strap goes taught. Have seen that plenty on beaches.

I managed to bend the one on my D3 to the point where I could no longer get a shackle on it. All I did was drop off an innocuous looking rock step on the Butcher Country track. The recovery point dropped on to a rock and it bent up to the cover plate on the ARB bar.

So it can happen. I found it easier to trade it in on a D4 than straighten it.

Interestingly if I remember correctly,this was bent downwards.So possible from a collision with mother earth.

Yeah and even if you straightened it you wouldn't want to assume it was safe to use.
Do you know what's involved in replacing the point (other than changing cars?!)? I guess with an ARB bar you could use it instead anyway
