Is it possible to purchase a new factory 4.6 engine for the P38?

G`day ,

there`s one for sale ( car ) at the moment , the blurb says that Ritters fitted a new engine last year , May they say , they say they have a receipt for over 10k .

The engine # 58D (4.0 edit) in the ad is not what Vic roads have .

The Vic roads number starts S80 which says at some time it was a new crated from the factory .

10 or 15yrs could be longer i bought a new short crated 4.0 , at the time they were supposed to be the last of the factory ones it`s S86 .

In answer to your question and i don`t know for sure but i don`t think Factory but i have read of factory like ones from the UK but again don`t know for sure as haven`t seen one .

I`m sure Ritters would say if asked .

edit
Was looking at something else and realised that 58D is a 4.0 , so while that may be unhelpful the vic roads # should be right .

I would rather a properly rebuilt (top hat liner) 4.6 to a non top hat factory new engine.

This engine stamp was used on service replacement engines in v8 replacements for liner problems in P38 and Disco applications.

Cheaper than a 4.6, more power than a 4.6 and less fuel than a 4.6.

Just chipping in with my 2c

Thanks for the replies guys - appreciate the effort.:D

The TRS website [sic pricing] seems to be well out of date.

No idea what that engine is banarcus but I'll bet the conversion is a few dollars.

Trs have the price on a quad cam bmw/ d3 4.4 at $9k:eek: with no price on the 4.6???? We've just been discussing ls1-3 swaps into a defender in that forum, for jap 4wds it's about $19-22k , with ls2 at about 5k for engine and auto with ls3 , 6.2v8's going from about $6300. Marks have an adaptors for lt230 to the Gm auto.
So if a new 4.6 rover is close to 1/2 the cost before all the labour of changeover and reco of the auto an ls could be an option :D

It's a shame P38's don't run the LT230 hey...

Ford 5.0 Windsor out of an AU. Reconditioned with new alloy heads etc $4000. Machine work by my good mate. I made the engine mounts and modified the Ford bellhousing to suit the ZF. Engineered too so 100% legal.

Torque in spades. Seriously I never have to squeeze the throttle down more than 1/4 around town.

Worth every cent.

Which would be harder or more costly, (and stronger) to link, a LS x +6spd auto with a LT230 to the P38's props or a LS X + 6spd auto to the p38 borg transfer case?

Mate, it's been done. A bloke over in the states has adapted a 4L60E to the borgy transfer and is running a 6.0 LS engine.

The local 6L80E is far less bulky than the 4L60E apart from its height.

If I had more cash, I may have went for the VE Holden 6.0/6 speed auto package simply for the gearbox otherwise I'd be happy to use a stroked 351 Windsor like 408ci.
