Dealing with the important issuess......

I am relatively new to this 4WD scene and am about to do my first road trip with the camping trailer, to Tassie. I won't be off-road that much but it's a start.

I have seen many 4WD's covered with stickers indicating the places that they have been. This got me to thinking "What is the criteria for claiming to have been somewhere?" To me the stickers give you travel credibility so if you just drive through a town, stopping only long enough for a sticker, can you really put it on your car as a trophy? Or do you at least need to stop for a cuppa? Or do you need to sleep with one of the locals?

I would hate to mis-represent myself and become a laughing stock of the 4Wd community. I have way better ways of becoming a laughing stock, like posting asinine threads.

If you've been there, you can collect the sticker. If you have not been there, then you shouldn't wear it, that would be deception.

Anyhoo, I have a no-sticker policy on the 4WD, but the Esky gets a workout. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif

I think that although just passing through is justifcation, sleeping with one of the locals might be more fun style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif

I think you should at least sleep over, sleeping "with" is optional and does'nt qualify for an extra sticker

The other thing is that some of the 4Bs covered in stickers may have been already on the vehicle when purchased, which would make them fakes and should be burnt at the stake style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif

Leave the stickers for the esky or stickem on the camper.

And you'll love Tassie, if you can, do the road that goes around the north west coast and then joins the Western Explorer Rd through to the punt at Corinna on the Pieman river, it's dirt most of the way but the views are worth it.

Baz.

Sleeping with one of the locals doesn't count if you had to pay. 8O

Visiting the local brothel only qualifies you to have one of their stickers, not ones for other local attractions.

If you do visit the local parlour, make sure it's not too dark or you might end up with this

Enjoy your trip whatever you do.

Thanks for the great advice

I finally feel that I contributed to this forum in a meaningful way. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif

I have decided to pro-rata the sticker based on what percentage of a day I spent there. So a 2 hour lunch break would earn me one twelth of a sticker. Max of one whole sticker per town.

If I sleep with a local I will draw a smiley face on the sticker.

If I paid to sleep with a local I will add a $ sign to the sticker.

If a local paid me to sleep with them, I will write the address of the closest clinic on the sticker.

If you see a trailer driving around with only bits of stickers, give me a honk, so to speak.

and if the town doesn't have any stickers - how will people know where you've been ?

Glue a coaster from the local pub on the trailer !!!!

If it hasn't got stickers what makes you think it will have a pub :?:

I would make sure that every town en route (or "on root" for other activities) has stickers available. If not, cross them off the list.

Simple

In 10 years time the stickers will be the only evidence you ever went on the trip.

Will be interesting to see your stickers/ coasters in a few years time.

The got-a-sticker-been-there thing is definitely not for me.

My vehicle has club stickers and 4WD Vic stickers proclaiming that tracks should be open for all. I also have an MLR sticker and a Silver City 4WD sticker because I get on well with both shops.

What I don't like is service shops that slap a sticker on without asking. No no no. Especially when it's difficult to remove!

I try and keep stickers to a minimum on the Landy. I have a couple of AULRO stickers and some others of biographical significance. None from places Ive been.

If a bond with a place or it is particularly famous, even if it is a couple of beers in a pub - I buy the stubby holder.

Somebody swiped my Marble Bar pub stubby holder from a caravan park while I slept once. Fuming to this day. You don't get to Marble Bar often when you live in Perth.

I only have the AULRO stickers on my beast. I've got a 7' tall two door tool box that I'm beginning to sticker up. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif
