Door seal rivets

I have just had a read of past threads re door seal rivets. I see they are available in bags of 50 on eBay. How difficult are they to fix as the rivet seller has a squeezer tool for sale. Can they be set with a punch, or is there an alternative tool.
I have counted nearly 100 rivets, so obviously looking for a practical tool option.

All the door seal rivets on my '52 doors are "blind". Mind you all I have now after cleaning is holes in rusty and galv RHS steel tube full of rivet tails. Original "Tucker" pop rivets methinks.

Quite a few of the larger "assembly" and "skin" rivets are solids - snap head - "reactioned" tails. These will need to be hit with a gun with a snap head driver and a "bucking" bar, or fixed "snap" (in vice) and a hammer to "reaction" the tail. This is normally a two person job.

Don't know about the squeezer on Ebay. However, squeezers are normally industrial/aero manufacturing tools and need to be properly set up on a "line" by a toolmaker/fitter. With a squeezer material thickness and rivet length critical for a properly set rivet.

You 'might' be able to do it by someone holding a dolly or hammer against the head while you used a punch. The punch would have to be formed to spread & roll over the edges of the hollow rivet.

Someone in QLD sells the squeezer. If you made something like this that held the dies in the correct orientation and you tightened a screw at one end (a bit like a G-clamp)........


The squeezer seems the best idea and tooling could be made for other riveting jobs. There must be a Chinese copy somewhere.......unless the ones advertised come from China.

On my '56 most seals are held on with semi tubular rivets but the front door seal uses bifurcated rivets.
