Coming to work this morning and i passed thru a short tunnel under Pascoe Vale Rd, i heard what i thought was a duke or a harley.
Then i looked over to my left and saw a scooter that was possibly a 250cc model with a huge alloy pipe hanging off the side :D.

of all the human senses, hearing is the least attuned.

Even then its feel, rather than sound.

I once had a Moto Guzzi 850 LeMans Mk11, which I had heavily modified. The noisier mods were: A Staintune 2>1 ( The prototype ) which was 1 decibel below the limit, Ergal timing gears (threw the chain out) which were square cut because there are no thrust bearings in that system and so, sounded like an air raid siren, nothing on the 40 Mil Dellortos but Stone Catchers ,and a Fiamm horn that was good enough for a large Truck. I knew that unless another driver was deff or a member of the Volvo Owners Club, I would be heard.

Worked with a bloke who had the LeMans MKIII, equiped with Conti pipes...

Although I associate Contis with Dukes this thing sounded superb!

My Honda 500 is waay too polite, Can't change gears properly because the exhaust is so quiet. Nothing like the character of the 750 Guzzi I had before it.
There are going to be changes after the first service.....

5" Cannon 2 into 1 with 3" bore...

Idle is marginal [emoji48] at around 104db

I've always found the noise useless at making people aware as they usually hear you once you've past them and they're behind you. I just like the noise on the track or in tunnels, drop it down a peg and go.

Might surprise some... On the other hand maybe he is choosing to stay out of it.

Personally, I reckon if you need to make your bike super loud and need to constantly blip the throttle, maybe you are compensating for something....:twisted::twisted:

Nothing grows without sunlight [emoji48]

I just like the deep thud of two 900cc barrels.

I definitely don't sit there just blipping throttle at lights etc...

We have someone who lives along our rural road with a bike like that. He starts it up at about 4am, and lets it idle for a couple of minutes occasionally blipping the throttle, then goes howling down the road.

Loud pipes may not save his life if he carries on ****ing people off like that.

I agree, exhausts (car/bike/bus/truck/pushbike) should be loud enough to be heard but not wake the neighbours every time you go out. NOthing annoys me more then when you walk through a carpark and someone gets angry at you because you "walked out in front of them" while they are parked in their pansy new car that doesn't make any noise!

That is why I never take the bike when leaving early or planning to arrive home late.

I do it out of courtesy for the neighbours who all like the bike.
My direct neighbour is a semi-retired nurse that has a petrol head heart (use to race bikes and dirt circuit cars).

All the surrounding neighbours have Hardley Dangerous bikes...

Mines loud, but very very deep in its note - you feel it rather than hear it inside a house.. Like when neighbour is playing Xbox and the subs are turned up [emoji41]

I am ashamed to say that I have been a rowdy eejit when it comes to Motor Cycles and bloody stupid too. That is why I've banned myself from riding until I wake up to myself, I'm getting there but I'm not there yet.

After riding to Mossman from Cairns (one of Australia's best rides), I backed my then 1200 Goldwing in amongst the Harlys outside the pub. One of the drinkers on the footpath stated "Can't hear it, mate."
I cranked up the radio.
