Water Sealing my DiscoII

Does anyone have any ideas on improving the rear door seals on a disco? Couldn't believe it but the other w/e went through a few (5 or 6) very easy bog holes that didn't actually stop the mighty D but when I went to clean up the beast...... water leaks onto the carpet via the rear doors!!!... as I said, we didn't stop, in fact we didn't even come close to being stuck so this was pretty disappointing :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil:

I know you 'purists' who drive Fenders will just shrug your shoulders but Hey.... this is my work AND play car.

Can I put in double door seals..or is there a way to beef up the normal ones???

First check the seal.

Beg borrow or steal a tube of dark lipstick and smear the rubber, close the door and check the imprint on the door to see where if anywhere the seal is not happening. Check the adjustment on the latch.

If that fails don't use the left over lipstick because that is a "bad look" and the colour won't suit you. 8O :wink:

I have heard that inserting either a closed cell foam sealant backing rod (used in construction circles) or the rubber rod, used to fix fly screen into door and window frames, into the rubber will bolster the seal.

Also a liberal application of vaseline on the door rubbers at least in dusty conditions helps. That leads to the question: Does it take in dust?

There are gaps in the seals. The seals themselves are pretty good, but water comes through the join. You can insert pipe (flymesh tubing?) and silastic these to seal them up again. I've had the boot underwater on a failed exit for a while and it leaked nothing. The doors are the issue though.

I found mine leaked when I used the high pressure cleaner at work,doesnt seem to leak with rain.
Call into SUPERCRAP,they have a rubber mat thats the perfect size for the Disco2,cost me $35 or something,the water catches in the mat style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif
At least it will keep your carpet clean when you put your muddy recovery gear in the back after rescuing a tojo or ****an. 8) 8) 8)

May i make the comment that its a LR..... it is designed to leak.

Please let us all know if you fix it as LR will want to make this a fix for all the SII Disco's

You might start a Recall......

Best thing you can do is by a Falcon for the company car and keep using the Disco as a play toy or upgrade to a Defender......

Defenders dont leak water, they Drain it.....
