Make the most of it guys, its the last one, and even worse if no other state comes on board Australia will loose its round of the WRC completely.
Speaking of Rallies the ARC is coming to bathurst in under a fortnight i am going to check that out. Matt

Pity. It would be worth being there. Can't wait for next years rally of canberra. I may even end being a recovery vehicle.

Are the WRC scared of those ball bearing tracks in the Jarrah forests?

No the WRC love the gravel tracks. The WA Gov has removed funding. From memory when they were arguing about it in the press the WA Gov puts in 3 million bucks a year to Rally Aust,it was worked out that the event actually brings 12 million bucks a year into the state.REAL GOOD BEANCOUNTING YET AGAIN

So why no keep it?
I went in 1990. Fantastic event...fantastic state. We drove and took 5 days to get there. Went down south to Esperance, Albany, Bunbury and finally into Peth. Watched the rally...brilliant!!!
Then went 36 hours straight we were back in Melbourne 8O 8O

You wont belive what they have just funded as a replacement.
An airplane race around marker bouys over Langley Park and the river,I KID YOU NOT
No offence to avaition buffs but I cant see that it will bring any money into the state.
The times I have watched the rally in the country stages there are coach loads of Jap tourists all with their official Mitsubbie Tojo Subie outfits and badges depending which coach they got off.The europeans wernt as conspicious, but there wernt 40 odd at a time of them climbing out of coaches all dressed exactly the same style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif

I will never understand the government thinks about motorsport, how long did it take the federal and the NSW state government to shell out for the money to upgrade Mt Panorama. Matt

Governments in this country only look as far ahead as the next election.

Yes i know, its unfortnunate because motorsport fans have to vote aswell, and the popularity of sport like ARC and V8 Supercars is increasing steadily, even the major papers are featuring regular articles on V8s these days but the government just dont see it. Matt

I usually help out at Rally Oz with the SES. They pay us a pittance but it funds our end of year pss up and we get a close up view of some of the action.
Last year I was stationed on a gate in Mundaring which was the exit to a public carpark but was also part of the rally track. So I had to stop the public coming out when rally cars were coming in, at high speed, and stop the public coming in and heading off up the track with the rally cars. Brilliantly planned. 8O

I've been a few times though not lately, the top drivers are absolutely brilliant, the skill and nerve is so far ahead of the average person. The horsepower of the top 6 or so is unbelievable, they just play with the accelerator whereas those lower down in the running have to have their pedal flat to the floor.
Certainly was worth the experience and very sad to see it go due to the decision of a lacklustre government special events commitee.

Im lookingforward to seeing the specialstage,at least you get to see a bit more of the action, but I dont think anythink will match seeing one of those beasts feet away at 250ks sideways on gravel, what a blast.

What I found amazing was that they were turning a 90 deg bend at very high speed around 100 metres from the bend, they are truly amazing drivers

Their car control is simply amazing, as you say the way they turn such sharp turns at such high speed take skill. What amazes me is the speed at which they scream through the forrest, tree wizzing past at 200km/h takes balls. Matt

I might have told this story before. I remember a mate of mine was marshalling at the Muresk stage. There is a big ring road round Muresk Agricultural College. Needless to say the boys at the college are rather fond of their technique and expertise in handling this track in their utes. They were talking it up waiting for the first car to come through. How would these euro blokes go on their track in their girly Jap cars.
First one through was Juha Kankunin, from Finland (where's that?) then WC driving a Toyota I think.
You heard him way before you saw him. Out of the trees came this blur. Engine WHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!
AWD car , two small rooster tails from the front two big ones from the back. 100m out he sets it up for a right hander. He flicks it LEFT and then throws it right, drops a cog or two and PLANTS it - car slots through a gateway like threading a needle at 90kmh.
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH
and he's gone...
The ute boys look at one another and go "farrrrk meee"
