This last week I purchased a very nice 2007 Disco 3 HSE 2.7 diesel with long range fuel tank, off road systems draws & fridge slide & a swag of receipts of work done. It has 178,000 km on it & I was told it had an auto service upgrade, performance tune upgrade & timing belts replaced by a very reputable business in SA, although the receipts for these weren't enclosed. Enquiries showed the auto & performance had been done but alas not the timing belts. I felt like I was driving a time bomb home from work today. There's trust for ya, I can't help it, I keep trusting people. I'm now in the position of beg, borrow, hire or buy a timing gear lock kit if anyone out there can help as I Can't afford to pay a repairer to do the job. I know, I can't afford to get it wrong either. I think after over 30 years on the tools as a mechanic (that's why I can't afford to pay someone else) I'll manage & I'm most open to suggestions or advice so don't hold back. I'm not sure how this works on the forum, perhaps contact me by Private Message if you have the tool available.

The locking set can be purchased quite cheaply off the net.

Here's one....

A 2007 model will see you needing a upgraded oil pump housing . There are threads on here about this issue but it seems the housing is cheaper thru Ford dealers.

You could always spend an hour or so and remove the timing cover to see if the engine has the new upgraded oil pump , if so highly possible you have a new timing belt.

Ok maybe they have worked out they are in demand. It was only a few weeks back someone posted they got the upgraded pump thru a Ford dealer for under $200.

Yep, it was only about 8 weeks ago I got a quote from my local Ford dealer for the oil pump, and it was $77!

It was the rest of the bits that were a rip off, the belt kit, seal and crank bolt.

Crank bolt and seal are cheap from LR themselves - I know Ford have the bolt at a stupid price.

It's one of the few parts that LR are actually reasonable on! At the time, I was hunting around to see if those parts needed at belt change time were any cheaper. With a Ford dealer only a 40 minute round trip away (compared to an hour and a half for the LR dealer) it was worth a shot.

I went and priced up a new crossover pipe at the Ford dealers a few days ago. $2500 with trade discount.

I pity any SZ Territory owners who don't have the wherewithal to hunt around for parts.
