Tonight I noticed a lack of illumination for the odometer. The rest of the dash lights work. Any ideas on where to start?

Thanks

Julian

When you find out, hopefully I'll know too, 'cos I have exactly the same problem.

Gee thanks Ken, who'd a guessed?. :p

I'm back home now and looking around, where in RAVE is the instrument panel removal part? (Found it )
It's meant to be easy, so easy that this

didn't put it in. I'll have a look at it tomorrow.
What wattage do I get? Is there a LED option? (I think I'll replace all the globes with LEDs while I am at it.)

Thanks

From memory I think it is 2W and others in the cluster are 5W.

I didn't ever bother looking for LED options.

I just replaced my D1 dash lights with LEDs.

I had to do it a couple of times tho.
The first set I got, 'claimed' that they had some spread, but as with all LED options, they spot too hard, with little peripheral spread.

I searched for more options:

T5 LED globe ebay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/10X-T5-3SMD-LED-BLUE-for-Car-dash-light-dashboard-Bulb-Lamp-wedge-DC-12V-/191152049296?hash=item2c818ccc90:g:VJsAAMXQNo5TXWR C)
(no affiliation with the seller, but they're the ones I purchased from. I got white tho, not blue)
The 5W replacement LED I got were something like this:

T10 LED, no polarity, ebay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/T10-194-LED-Light-12V-Lights-for-168-2825-5-SMD-Replacement-Reverse-White-Bulb-/231369139398?hash=item35deace4c6:g:Op4AAOSwqBJXWl2 V)
I got these ones due to the built in bridge rectifier, which means you can install either way and not worry about incorrect polarity.
The D1's dash has an impossible one to get too(for the Tacho), and I didn't want to be pulling it in and out more than this single instance.

The T5's I had delivered, but as the OP is in Williamstown, the T10's I got, I picked up in person .. not far from Willy.
The ebayer SunYee is located off Korroit Ck road in Altona. Easy drive from Willy.
If you know the new overpass at the railway line, there is a set of lights and road that heads south off Korroit Ck rd there.

Hope that helps,
Arthur.

The bright white works a treat. Maybe a touch bright on a totally dark road, but easy to live with(mine doesn't have the dash dimmer rheostat).

I'm fairly sure that I have got some of these for the MB Valente. I like the bridge rectifier ones better, not so critical for the Valente internal lights, just swap them around. Not so easy with the disco instruments.

I guess a blue one for the high beam light? or is there a blue filter?

Cheers

The holders are giving the colour so you dont need coloured LEDs just to addapt them to the original holders not to solder them to the PCB if you se what i mean

SO the holders are taken apart, the globe swapped over and the holder put back together. Is that right?

Thanks

Yes, that's it, you'll understand why when you'll have the holder in your hand just that you might need a magnifier and a tweezers ;)

Ha, I have fingers like Polish sausage!

Are the tweezers and magnifier needed to get the contacts right?

Thanks

Remember to not turn the instrument pack upside down because of the fluid damper on the fuel gauge.

I've been unable to find definitively any firm information on replacement globes or LEDs. Apparently the small odometer globe has to be replaced as a whole unit. I've ordered one of these a one of the green globes.
I wanted to get the globes, remove the instrument unit, replace the globes and put it all back together. I don't want to remove the instrument unit remove a globe, put the instrument unit back, drive to super cheap auto barn, buy globes etc. etc.

When the globes arrives, I'll go to super cheap auto barn, buy globes and hopefully fix this light issue up. Hopefully with LEDs. Even the odometer light.

Cheers

I went to Jcar with the globe in hand bought a L E D replacement also some globe sheaths in red put it in with the sheath on bingo and the lcd display is still green that easy;)
Why make a easy job hard or do you want someone to hold your hand while you do it :p

Maybe not hold my hand ;) I'll need both of them to do this.
How did you get the polarity right with the LED?
I am very new to car maintenance at this level. No doubt when I finish this I'll be an "expert" just as I am with changing the head liner, engine mounts and all the other bits I have managed.
Although I did need help with the fuel cooler:D

Jaycar have L e d globes in the holders to suit the application ;)
It realy is that simple unscrew the globe fit the new one and no need to worry about polarity  See so simple once you have the cluster out:p

Why use pics when you can use video?

Hmm not a bad idea.

BOHICA. acronym, although pronounced as if it is a single word, for "Bend over! Here it comes again:p

the site doesnt accept hungarian characters:D ... no joke;) , you can deduce how the bulb can be replaced from this link Land Rover Owner • View topic - Illumination gone from LCD Screen under Speedo (http://forum.lro.com/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=78223#p750971) so a LED will fit without probs by bending it's terminals

No Hungarian characters? that's szar!
So I guess the replacement globe at Jaycar is the whole unit. Not just the globe.

Hope this posts in the right spot,

Here's a tip,

Grind the rounded end of an LED flat for a diffused light output.
I did this in my Disco 2a and it looks like new.
