Gents, my air compressor is staying on much longer than normal and finishing with a large "PUFF". Possible Diagnosis??

There is always a release of the pressure from the line to the reservoir, the front and the rear valve blocks as soon as the compressor stops, presumably to make it easier to start next time.

Running longer could be a sticky relay (the compressor relay's contacts have a hard life) or the compressor getting weak or the reservoir was depleted significantly last use.

Thanks Graeme - will keep an eye on it this week.

I can never hear my compressor running. Maybe too much right foot is drowning the compressor noise.

do you regularly use the access height? Sounds like a tired compressor

Yes, I do - alot - has been good last couple of days but keeping an eye on it.

simply put, you wore the compressor out by raising and lowering a lot. if your handy with a spanner, rebuild kits are not too dear off ebay. not difficult to fit either.

Thanks - will look to do that; at least its easy to get to :D

A quite different Hitachi compressor superseded the earlier version Hitachi starting with MY11 so the rebuilt kits for the earlier versions might not be suitable. Then an AMK compressor was fitted starting around May 11 but reverted to the Hitachi about the time and perhaps co-incidental with MY12 production start. However an AMK upgrade kit now supersedes the Hitachi.

Yes, it won't be the common Wabco kit you're after, you'll need to find out what compressor you're running first. Probably the Hitachi - kits are available for these too very cheaply.

Mine was the Hitachi type, parts are a little more for the kit, only about 100 or so.
