Half luggage barrier/dog guard for Defender?

I'm searching for a half luggage barrier/dog guard for my Defender 110.
Inquiries have failed to find any Australian half barriers, only full barriers. I don't want a full barrier because I have rear drawers, plus I want to be able to fold down the seats and lay long items on the floor under the barrier.
I've searched overseas and its possible Rimmer may have one, so I've emailed them to check.
Travall don't appear to have a half barrier.
They must exist though, as I've seen them in magazines.
Any clues anyone?

I might be wrong but I thought I read somewhere that Autosafe cargo barriers in Boronia, Melbourne, will make a half cargo barrier if draws are fitted? Have you tried them? Contact for them is 03 9720 5533. I have a full barrier of theirs fitted to my 2013 Defender 110 and it is excellent. Worth a try if you haven't called them yet.

Hi mate,

I can also recommend Autosafe. I built my own false floor in my 110 (to store the spare tyre in the cargo space). I just did a few measurements and emailed them together with some photos to Autosafe, and they built me a half barrier to suit.

It's very solid and well made.

Thanks, but had a reply saying they don't do half barriers for Defenders as there is not enough demand.

I have been debating whether to remove the barrier from my new TD5 fender. You have inspired me to look at modding it so I can fit drawers by cutting it in half.

i also made a false floor and needed a "dog" barrier as apposed to a cargo barrier (needs adr compliance for strength). i also wanted it to be easily removed or folded in case i wanted to carry a full load in the back. i made up the frame and attached it via steel tabs to the upper seat belt mounts for the rear seats. it allows me to fold the whole barrier up into the roof space out of the way. couple of simple pins on the false floor to hold it in place when the barrier is down . the whole system isnt designed to be a cargo protection thing. just to keep our working dogs from jumping in the front. i reckon any steel fabrication company could make you one if you drove in and explained what you needed.

There is one English crowd reckons it has one for 209 pounds, but I'm not sure if that includes freight. The cost is now up there with a local Milford full height barrier. Maybe I should just buy one of them and cut the bottom off. Or, I could remove it when I want to carry long loads.

This is the setup I have done in the back of mine for dogs recently. Just need to get them off to the powdercoater before they start to rust! I think I've got enough weld mesh left over for another one if you wanted me to bend one up for you Mick? As long as I can assume the mount points would be the same between a 90 and a 110 (and you don't mind welds that look like pigeon ****).

There are a couple of local companies Puppy Bars and Surefind Kennels that do this sort of work. They are around the $1500 for a full cage setup which is why I went the DIY route, but for a simple half panel would probably be quite reasonable (and I assume would be ADR compliant etc...)

Yes thanks, I looked at them but all the pics are to fit behind the front seats in the 90, but I want to fit behind the rear seats in a 110. I might email them.

I had another thought regarding the half barrier.

You could try www.puppybars.com. Colin custom makes dog cages and other 4x4 accessories. He might have manufactured something for the Defender. The downside is he is based in Melbourne but he might have measurements for the Defender. His work is first class.
