Gday All,
Has anyone done this ? I have an intermittent fault which is just a generic code U0416 , and have read countless threads and some same brake light switch cant be ruled out. As I haven't changed it before (2008 model ) and don't have a spare with me was wondering if anyone has achieved removing, cleaning and refitting the switch.
Thoughts ?
Cheers Ean

How's your brake light bulbs?
I see a battery thread. Are you having battery issues? May be the root cause.

These cars are weird !
I have had one tail light that has been dim, not out but dim everything else worked fine.
Pulled it out yesterday, drove the Disco into the shed. turned off did not put the handbrake on probably at least 5 possibly 10 minutes before I pulled the rear lights off and removed the globe, within10 seconds of removing the globe the car beeped and the handbrake was applied !
No keys in the car and no one in it, fitted new globe, reassembled it all, brake stayed on by all fine, drove off as normall ?
All O.K. no more trouble.

Just going thru the basics first Tombie. Was recently away camping and found that our new fridge had run the Auxillary battery to cut the fridge off at 11.6V , with the traxide system my starter battery was at 12V each time which started the car no issue's. There was very little sun for the solar panels to charge the batteries so I had to charge them with the Alt.
Co-incidence or not since then I have this random fault appear which shows as a transmission fault and then lowers the car. The start battery is showing as charged but I have my doubts about it. I will load test it at work tomorrow , but am going thru the motions of all the simple issue's/fixes that could be throwing the fault.
Today I removed the Auxillary battery and any accessories connected to it and put a battery charger on the main battery for the day, even tho it was at 12.7v with nothing on. I will just leave it like that for a week or so and see what happens.
I have the problem of the car only doing about 10ks a day so it certainly doesn't get a decent charge either , so its a matter of eliminating the basic things and go from there.

Same boat here. When I'm working it does 11.6km a day.
When not working it can sit for days...

I haven't read of this being done Ean and my guess is it would be fiddly based on what's posted on Disco3.
If you have a Ford dealer near you one is likely to be in stock and cheap, although the genuine LR is not that much money either.
I'd just replace with new to be confident of eliminating this as a possible cause, although it does sound more battery related anyway.

Went to the Ford dealer and picked up a brake switch $27.20. The SZ Territory has the same switch , and several of the falcon's have the same switch.
Replaced the switch today and opened the old switch up but couldn't see anything obvious.

What you can expect with a failed one ..... copied & linked from Disco3 (bbyer):
"When you take the old one apart, you will probably see carbon dust from a failing contact."

Yep that's what they look like inside , I didn't really see much carbon but for under $30 for a replacement from Ford and a 5 min job to change it then im ok with changing it out after 8 yrs and eliminating that option of my trouble shooting.
