I went to jack up the RRV last night to check a wheel bearing. My small trolley and D1 bottle jacks couldn't lift the car high enough. I think it's the consequence of the change to slightly bigger 265/60/18 tyres.

It looks like I need a jack with a range of 200 to 460mm. Merc sprinter two stage jack would be good but rare.

Any other suggestions.

I used my good workshop jack at home and packed that when travelling a long way and remote places, and the RACV when out and about locally. :D. Thankfully never needed to change a tyre when out.

If you can find an Iveco Daily jack from a wrecker, it'll do the job. Made by the same mob as the Defender/Disco red jack, but 3.5T cap. 141mm to 400mm height range. I got one from here (www.hiluxivecoducatospares.com.au)for about $110 del'd.
Don.

Thanks.

I have a red D1 jack. Too short on its own and too tall if on a block.

Does this one fit the bill with a piece of hardwood under as jacking plate?
https://www.blackwoods.com.au/part/00946908/jack-bottle-omega-telescopic-hyd-2t
Capacity (kg) 2000
Height Max (mm) 418
Height Min (mm) 181
Stroke (mm) 201
Mass (kg) 5.7

Alternatively can you jack using the suspension arm like on the D4?

Cheers,
Scott

Thanks Scott, I tried looking for that one.

Unfortunately the jack needs to be capable about 460mm height to get the wheel off the ground using the side jacking point. The car sits quite high with this amount of lift as the wheel really hangs.

Part of the problem is I'm not really sure what can be used for a jacking point, other than designated points, subframe and suspension arms at the back which look substantial enough.

Apart from the jacking points, yes the subframe and suspension arms and the entire arse of the car can be lifted from the diff - but like most points you need a big jack to do this - I used this point when I had to do something on both sides like the brakes, etc - I have a large trolley jack that would pick it up high enough to get my jack stands under the rear jacking points.

Once you've done that you get clear access to the entire rear suspension, brakes, everything. :)

Thanks Gav, yes the rear is substantial. There are good options there which lift the wheel nicely. The front is a different story. The only clear options at the front are a jacking point or subframe. However neither lifts the wheel.

You can lift a front wheel from the lower suspension arm if you drop it to access height first. It flattens out the arm enough for a trolley jack plate to lift just where there is a recess in the arm. Again, shortly followed by a jack stand, but that's where I always jacked the front from.

This way you only need to to pump the jack a few times to get the wheel off the ground.

Thanks. It's a possibility with a 50mm block under it.

As forum member pointed out to me yesterday, us drivers of lounge rooms on wheels don't ever use a jack, we usually just call the road side assists to change our tyres. Good on ya Chris

Very true. :D. Looks like you've settled into L322 ownership just fine. :)

jacks good enough to do the job properly end up being quite bulky items if you carry them , a bit like a decent size fire extinguisher......both items take up a lot of space and weight.

and for the jack you need a decent plate under it be it timber or metal , again weight and space thief.

but, you really gotta have 'em.

This ones going to need the attachment you've all being talking about to go into the arms. Chassis just falls short.https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/09/681.jpghttps://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/09/682.jpg Lowered it onto the jack with access height then opened the door..

The weber/Mercedes sprinter jack is a two stage 2.6T which seems to tick all boxes.

Hi rar110, just read this post, it must be the same ones I bought last night.
I priced a second hand one at a sprinter wrecker and they want $175 each! for them, so if you want the other you can have it when it arrives to me in Australia.
At what it cost me plus what ever postage to your location.
Cheers, mario

Just buy a new 2 stage from Blackwoods for $160 [emoji41]

Then you have warranty (and kept an Aussie in a job too)

Yes seems so, I was touring Portsea's Point Nepean road yesterday arvo admiring all the other passing Rangies ( they were newer models, ;) but the body shape is still similar:D),
then passed a Breathalyzer, got a smile and waved on by the cops, didn't even need to stop , they seemed to be pulling toyotos up that day, i saw them on the way up and down and they had toyotas.
I later Parked in Blairgowrie motor yacht squadron's car part (on the public side of the controlled members boom gate :p) then took the leisurely cruise along Peninsula link home.:)

Wait!

I bought one but haven't tried it under the L322, only on the bench. Unlike the P38A jack, it appears to have only a single ram and the extra height is gained via the screw section. When left screwed in, it pumps as high as the P38A jack.

I'll check it properly today and report back. It may be going back to SCA.

Sounds like the first one I bought from Total Tools.... with the screw part being a key part of the height it just wouldn't raise the vehicle high enough.

I lowered the car to access height and the jack won't fit underneath. Oh, well, back to SuperCrap. I should have checked first.

pic of using my sprinter jack I put a modified head on it to slot correctly into the sill recess. This pic is with a fully inflated tyre and the height th jack was to enable me to removed a fully imflated tyyre, . The Jack has that much travel again when the next section of ram comes out. I used it on a flat tyre on the road and can't remember if I raised the suspension to gain acccess under the sill, but it was not an real issue.
