I'm giving Debs Territory some love tomorrow. It hasn't been driven for at least 5 months:(:(:(:(:(:(:(
Had to put a new battery in it today.
Anyhow, the clearcoat on the top panels is very ordinary. All falcons seem to suffer from it.My Bro says just use a good polish,it comes good. The clearcoat isn't peeling, just dull,I don't really want to get it machine polished unless nessesary as there is nobody in town that does it.
A few pics, see the plastic trims aren't effected. Is the Autoglym worth trying or just a waste on a ****box falcon:wasntme::wasntme::wasntme:

I do have some Mequires stuff for fine scratches I used on the D2,it may be out of date(separated),Ive also got claybar product and that fancy paint protector I haven't used on the D4 yet.
Thoughts??? Unfortunately this one lives out in the sun.
Brian/Russ/Scott,you blokes seem to be the masters of shine:):):)
Thanks

I would definitely try the Autoglym polish on it, doesn't look too far gone at all.
But if that's not enough you can move on to clay bar that worked wonders for Russ and keep the polish for the D4.

Cheers,
Scott

Yep clay bars usually first but i'd just skip it too and use the Auto Glym Super Resin.

That paint protector should last a while if you use a tiny bit Andy. Maybe just do the most prone to peeling spots... Bonnet, Roof.... In case you want to flog it off...

I've been attempting to bring back the life on my recently brought falcon. Paint looks very similar to you territory Andy. I've attempted to use meguirs polish (what I could get readily here) but I think it needs something more agresive I've as it hasn't done much. Let's us know how you go with it

I had the same problem on mine when i got it, had spots of surface rust on the roof too from something, Meguires did nothing, Auto Glym Super Resin got rid of 90% of it, by hand...

My work van was like that as well, been in the sun for a good few yrs.

i used Autoglym polish, came up well, but six to eight months later it was looking tired again.Probably the **** toyota paint:mad:

If yours isn't being used, maybe a car cover may help.

I would try clay bar on the worst section. Then maybe try Autoglym paint renovator. Our two cars live outside. I've been using chemical guys quick detailer to maintain the paint. It's been very good IMHO. I don't wash the cars just use this stuff. Takes about 25 - 30 min for both cars once a week. It's now part of my sat morning routine.

In my experience, if it's red, and it's got a few years, then you're ****ed.
No matter what you use.

Its any vehicle in red,has much to do with UV rays and the colour spectrum.

Thinking further, I would clay bar the whole car after a wash to get all contaminants out, then polish. Then you should put on a protective wax.

Wash with dishwasher liquid. Removes grease. Then clay the whole car using dishwasher liquid and water as the lube. Polish by hand but you may need to machine polish it to get some warmth in the polish to have it perform properly. Don't use a wool pad but a medium foam pad. Then seal it with a polymer sealer. Then wax if you really feel the need but after a good sealer it won't be needed.

Yep the sun is the curse of red cars, ditto dark colours and clear coats.

Having tackled similar problems on the motley collection of not so classic cars in times past, the following is my workflow for less than optimal paint surfaces including clear coats

1. Give the car a good wash. High pressure hose first, then bucket wash using a car wash detergent, rinse down with hose at low pressure. Chamois dry.
2. Clay bar the top surfaces, use the clay with one of the detailer sprays. Rinse and dry.
3. If the paint is oxidised or hazy then use a very light cutting polish, the autoglym product above or Maguires Scratch X2.0 are what I use.
4. Rinse and dry again.
5. Finish with a good polish. Autoglym super resin in my product of choice ATM.
6. If you are super anal, finish with a sealant coat like Autoglym extra gloss protection.

Cheers
Steve

My go to product once cut (I use Menzerna to cut, remove swirls etc) is Klasse All in One. Leaves a glass like finish and lasts. And, looks great on red. I would then seal with Klasse High Gloss Sealent - two coats. Goes on easy, comes off easy.

Make sure you have plenty of clean 100% cotton cloths or better to remove the sealer is microfibres.

If you've never used a quality AIO like Klasse or Zaino, be prepared to be amazed [emoji3]

I could go on and on. Good luck and keen to see the results

I am a bit biased, my late father in law used to be the sole importer of it. It is really good stuff but you need to make sure you use the right product for the right job.
They make a few different grades from paint renovator (cutting polish) through the super resin polish, another finer one and then you get the instant show shine ( like Mr Sheen ).
Try the super resin polish first, it has a red label and depending how much rubbing and pressure you use will determine how agressive it will be. Use something like cheese cloth, not t shirt or toweling or all you'll be doing is buffing out the old and rubbing in new scratches.

Bigger job than I imagined, not sure its going to be that flash,a test patch on the bonnet didn't look that good.
I gave it a thorough wash,clay-bared the whole car and have put Autoglym on,I double coated the roof/bonnet/tops of gaurds.Havent polished it off yet, hoping the paint will soak it up some.Done the glass with rainex and the interior with leather cleaner.Ready for a beer, will soldier on!!!!!
I have some Zaino for the D4,may try some when I'm done if it looks OK.If I think it needs a buff I wont waste it.

If the autoglym didnt do the job, get the paint renovator then after you've done that the super resin polish should bring it up to a near mirror finish.

Renovator or cutting compound is like ultra fine sand paper. The clay bar will get out contaminants but abrasives are there to smooth the surface. You could go to 1500 grit but that's pretty extreme.

On cars where the paintwork has started to fade and look a bit sad, I've used Nu Finish for years. It is not expensive, and seems to bring up an old paint job looking reasonably new again. Once done with this and if happy with the result, I would then apply a decent paint protector such as the Auto Glym.

I have only ever used the liquid version in the bottle - have never even seen the tin shown below. ;) You can buy this stuff anywhere - I've seen it in Bunnings as well as on supermarket shelves. It originally came out as one of those Television Shop products (buy yours now - just call the number below - but wait, there's more. Place your order in the next 10 minutes and we will also send you a free set of steak knives) and eventually migrated to the supermarket shelves, just like CLR and a number of other products (like my Shark Vacuum cleaner which, by the way, is the best vacuum cleaner we've ever had). :p:p:p

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/09/219.jpg (http://postimg.org/image/5qrjobopp/)

I have a bottle of it in the shed, and it is all I ever use on SWMBO's Camry (I mean, who would waste expensive car polish on a Camry ???). :wasntme:

After polishing with Nu Finish, I then apply Auto Glym paint protector - the paint on the Camry is a metallic silver, and still looks as good as new. ;)

I agree with the comments of others on "Red" paint though. Looks great when new, but once it really starts to fade, there's not a lot you can do with it. I did use the Nu Finish on SWMBO's previous car, a RED Ford Festiva. It did bring it up reasonably well, but the finish never lasted long, as the crappy clear coat that ford (or Kia) used on these things was **** and was never going to last in Australian sunny conditions.

Shaun's Mazda looked really good a few years ago, and the paint had been maintained well.

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/09/220.jpg (http://postimg.org/image/8rw20js1j/) https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2016/09/221.jpg (http://postimg.org/image/48yqqo5zt/)

These days though, the upper surfaces - especially curved surfaces such as the tops of the front & rear guards - now all look a "pink" shade of red, even though the shine and general condition of the paintwork is still good. And this car spends better than 95% of its life under cover in a fully enclosed shed. No amount of polishing, and no paint restoration product, will fix this in the longer term. He may be able to bring it back to "red" again with a good hard going over with a cutting compound, but any improvement is unlikely to be long term. He is now planning for a total re-spray, which really is the only way to bring the paint back to original or better condition.

Doesn't look like your Ford is anywhere near as bad as the Mazda Andrew. I'd simply give it a go with Nu Finish. If you were going to sell it, that's probably all I would do. If you plan on keeping it for a while - give it a dose of Auto Glym paint protector after the Nu Finish. ;)

Looking good. :D

Black does look great when it's cleaned and polished, but ..............

the only black car I've ever owned was a 1964 Pontiac Laurentian, and that had so much black paint that you'd need one of these to polish it properly. :p
