Got one in my D2, and it is great. Have now fitted a switch which turns off the CDL light to enable me to turn the engine off and on to disengage TC & ABS when I need, then simply flick the switch to the CDL light and all is how I need it. Before I had to turn off the CDL, run the car back and forward a few times to dissengage the CDL (sometimes not possible in a tight space) turn the engine off and back on to turn off TC & ABS and repeat turning the TC & ABS on again.

$700 sounds about right for ARB to do it. From memory I paid about $620 for a LR mechanic to do it.

Best mod to date though!!

Aye, Mick

Hi Sith
I made my own CDL acuator using socket set extensions and unijoints purchased for $2 a piece from cash converters, wouldnt of cost me more than $30 all up,and works a treat.
If you happen to be traveling thru Williams at all give me a yell you can have a look.I will find my post on how I did it and BUMP it up for you.

Hi,
I have one, well had one in my car, its currently out as i am having some problems with the CDL mechanism in the transfer case.... according the mechanic that fixed it he thinks it has something to do with the AMV kit, but i highly doubt it.

I fitted mine myself, its not hard, but you would be best off to come in from the top i think, first time i did it i come up from under the car and it was nearly impossible to contort my arms up and around to the top, my arms are to round, might be ok if you have skinny arms though. when i took it out i just pulled out the centre console and tranmission tunnel cover, much easier to reach the bolts and cables!

Will we are on this topic, does anyone have a picture of the little lug on the top in the locked position? i am having some issues with mine AMV kit now i am puting it back in, the dog isnt turning far enough to trip the magnetic switch. I am not sure were i have gone wrong...

Guys the aftermarket kits are sh*te Shocked

Go to www.discoparts.com and email the owner (Mark Casey)
tell him Mike Hayes from D2AU (Australia) said to contact him.

He will sell you the factory CDL lever assembly from a D2a for approx. $500.00 landed.

Then you end up with the proper cable operated D2a Lever with high low and lock on it.

Bolts straight in, no messing around.

And far more relaible than a wiper motor or solonoid system.

Cheers
Mike

Not sure if this is quite on-topic, but thought it might interest you folks.

Graeme Cooper has a manual kit on sale $410.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>This is a manually operated centre diff lock kit to suit a series 2 Discovery, manual & automatic TD5 or manual V8 only. This will operate in high & low Range.[/b][/quote]

Looks very similar to the button cdl in the old Countys.

He's just re-selling the Les Richmond Kit.

Why not for around the same $$$ have a neat factory lever assy.?

Takes about 7 days to get here for $500.00 or there abouts

From LR aust they are $1500 but Marks a good guy there. I've sent 3 people to him now, and we are all very happy with the service and the product.

Believe me the convenience of just push left/right is far better and neater than 2 levers/switches

And I've seen several electric operated versions fail. Especially after a wet trip and then no use for a week or 2....

Cable actuated, simple, reliable, quiet, neat!

Cheers
Mike

g'day Sith

dont mean to be rude, but what happened to the TD4.2 Patrol you bought ??? a few months back 8O

Well the Patrol got us as far as Laverton , getting ready to cross the Great central hwy to Ayres Rock , when a female low loader driver smashed the Patrol into the ground at the roadhouse whilst we were eating out breakfast 8O 8O 8O

So after 4 days of emergency accom , food , waiting on SGIO to sort something out for us ...getting home with no car no gear and most of my annual holidays chewed up by Mr Murphy and his law .....still waiting on SGIO to pay up and disputing little things like equip and paying for accom and travel home ....

We got home , and with the money left in my bank account i couldn't afford another Patrol [about $15k short ] still waiting on SGIO  went out looking around for a 4x4 ....found a Dec 1999 TD5 Disco well within my budget with a bit of cash left over for some accessories ....hopefully we will have some better luck with this one

well its been over 4 weeks now and still no word back from SGIO ..... going into their office Monday , our old rather unrecognizable Patrol is back in Perth .....so how long do they want before paying me out ???

so that's about it , got the Disco 120,000km full service history with not even a tow bar on her $19500 .
