Can anyone recommend the best way to deal with the rust I have inside my housing? Obviously at some stage there has been water inside for a long period, or condensation through the breather.
I am taking the diff to be rebuild by a specialist, he is going to dismantle it, give it back to me to sort out the corrosion, then back to him for the rebuild.
From the research I have done, you can either sand blast it or acid bath it?

Thanks for any advice

I've just had my first play with using molasses for rust removal. Slow but very effective. You'd either need a container big enough to put it in or if it's only the inside you're concerned with just blank up the axle ends and breather, fit the cover then lay it down and fill it via the pinion hole. Leave it a couple of weeks then drain and hit with the pressure washer.
