Hi

Does anyone know a good place to get black wheel nuts (without caps) to fit a 2011 D4?

They mustn't have 'caps' like the standard ones as I switch wheels to go off-road and the one thing that makes this process painful is when I get a lug stuck in the rattle gun and have to spend time getting it out (tends to happen on 2-3 lugs each time I change over but Im confident this wouldn't happen with solid steel nuts instead.

I can see some on eBay but I have no idea what size/spec they need to be?

Thanks, Luke

14x1.5mm is the thread diameter and pitch.

Not sure which shape you will need to get the right number of turns onto the stud though.

Thanks Mike, I appreciate that. Do you remember what you paid?

The gorilla website doesn't sell online (or direct) so I've emailed them to see if there are stockist in Aus, the Range Rover ones do look identical. No
Prices listed either

Like most ebay sites in the US, the shipping costs are bloody ridiculous and enough to put anyone off shopping in the US - I certainly avoid US sites like the plague for exactly this reason. Wanted to buy a plug cutting jig from Kreg recently (Carbatec won't carry them in Australia, even though they are the Australian distributor for Kreg products). The freight from the US, whether purchased from Kreg direct or from another US ebay site, was in excess of $100 - for something about the size of a pack of 50 cigarettes plus a drill bit.

Bugger that - I bought a plug cutter from Bunnings and am making my own jig ........................... :D

Yep eBay has the gorilla ones for $220 with delivery, way too expensive for a simple set of nuts.

Does anyone know if these will work? https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/182271406249

No. They won't...

They need to look exactly like the ones with the part number Insupplied.

I just replaced mine due to new wheels and a couple of the old ones got stuck in the (6 sided) socket. I had to hit them out with a screwdriver and hammer.

That said I have been using an impact wrench to undo them (and a torque wrench to tighten them). sooooo much quicker.

New nuts are solid so shouldn't suffer the same fate...

Lol tombie!

Without wanting to get back into the arguement over the use of rattle guns the reality is that getting nuts without the 'caps' will make changing 4 wheels over a very quick process, less than 10 minutes with a trolley jack and rattle gun.

The other residents in my complex know how often I switch tyres so it has to be streamlined
