I need to get some sort of o/p monitor to keep check of voltage and current being supplied to the battery. What types of devices are available to do this? Jim

You can use a shunt and a dual Amps/Volts meter. that links to the shunt.

Take a look around eBay. I got a couple for something like $25 each (from memory). I can see what's going in and what's going out.

Pretty simple to set up.
