My wife has an old Asus K52 laptop that has been kept working longer than expected by fitting extra RAM, a SSD, and after replacing the keyboard and DVD drive. I did all this work so didn't cost a heap. It still works great and does everything she wants, other than it doesn't hold charge or recharge.

I recently took a punt on a new battery from a Aus eBay seller. The battery lasted about a month before it started run down too quick too early and wouldn't recharge. The light on the charging transformer didn't light up so I bought a new charger, which seemed to work (light came one) but the battery wouldn't charge. I blamed the battery and got a replacement which drained quick and after a few days wouldn't charge.

Have I bought a battery from a dud ebayer or is something else wrong and can I fix it?

Thanks

At work recently we sold off 20 or so dead lappy batteries, which was fine as the laptops were never going to sell anyway:p
are you sure it was "new"

Battery was sold as a new battery.

I once bought an eBay charger to charge my Li camera battery while in the car. It didn't charge the battery despite the little led lighting up. I knew the battery was OK because I could charge it from the 240v wall charger. The unit was unbelievably light in weight, I opened it up to see what was in there - a resistor attached to an led. :D

Luck buying eBay phone batteries is just as bad. What are supposedly genuine batteries are genuine fake batteries in my experience - they fit but don't perform.

install batterybar
https://batterybarpro.com/

and once installed, check the battery wear and charge rate

Thanks Gents. I'll see how I go with the battery bar.

I consulted the techs at work. The resolution was the motherboard needs replacing. Anyone know where to buy one for an ASUS K52? I'd rather not spend $800 on a new laptop.
