hi i just wondered if anyone could tell me what the 4xd park in kurnell
is like i.e level of off roading if there is any

as me and my partner are new to oz we have just moved here two weeks ago and are just looking for places to go and explore we are at the moment driving a 1999 disco which is our only car at the moment so we would prefer minimal damage but hopefully if all goes well our defender 90 200tdi should be joining us in january.

then we will be up for a lot more, our main objective is to meet other landrover freeks https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ and to get out and explore this beautifull country you guys live in..

thanks

Not aware of any 4wd parks near Kurnell.

You're not thinking of the National Park I hope, don't venture off the tar in there..

Used to be able to drive on the sand-dunes in Kurnell, but I haven't done that for about 25 yrs. Not sure whether you still can.

They'll be plenty of trips in the new year. It'll be great to see a 90 in action.

You must be talking about boat harbour. It is a nice beach with small waves so very family friendly, they charge something like $15 for the day or even 2min for that matter.

As for 4wding goes the disco will have no prob. Have some fun on the dunes then hit the surf.

Yes, there is one, Max. The 4WD mags use it for a lot of their testing. I think it's called Boat Harbour 4WD Park.

Late edit: I've found it. Go to http://www.ourshire.com.au/suburbs/ select Kurnell then Cronulla 4WD Park (it's also known as Holts 4WD Park). Oh, they use a yellow Rangie in their pix.

Hi and welcome,
Not really on topic, but why Sydney?
There are much nicer (and cheaper) places to live in Oz https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ and most are close (er) to excellent 4x4, touring and camping country. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/
Not being condescending or unwelcoming, just plugging other bits of the land
I have probably just asked for the wrath of many learned AULRO members who live in Sydney https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ but the truth is a bitter pill!

Regards and welcome

OK, I'll respond. I was born here in Sydney and spent most of my life here.

There are far better places than Sydney. It's a great place to visit and an even better one to get away from.

Almost anywhere else in Oz would be better and cheaper to live in.

Welcome to Aus. Hope you enjoy it here and get to use your Landy's for their designed purpose. There are plenty of good off road spots around this country ranging from easy to near impossible and I hope you find what you are looking for. It is just a shame that many areas are off limits now due to minority interest groups.
Have fun and I hope you become a regular here. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

There are no sanddunes left at Kurnell any more, as for the Kurnell 4WD park I would be casting the net a bit wider, head up to Lithgow, Gardens of Stone, Capertee areas (Still within a couple of hours of Sydney) or grab the Boiling Billy Book - 4WD Treks close to Sydney.
The scope around the area is quite large and as others have said the range varies from the impossible through to a walk in the park.

Ralphs obviously never heard of Meani, full on 4x4 driving almost in the heart of Sydney about 30 - 40 minutes from the CBD on a bad day, Melbourne can't offer this type of terrain even near their CBD

NSW offers premium touring country & fantastic camping areas all within an hour to two hours of Sydney, & great ones up to 3 hours out of Sydney.

Travel 3 hours in Victoria and you leave the state, but they do have great 4x4 driving in the Australian Alps though, not yet mucked up by Parks authorities but I do stress yet!

Some of the toughest off roading in Aus is an easy days outing out of Sydney that will knock your socks off, Appins a half hour or so past the southern suburbs of Sydney in easy access of the motor way heading to the ACT.

Melbourne may have lots of things but it doesn't have Sydney Harbour or great beaches of any kind for that matter and those it does have (great beaches like Bells) are yellow sand and hours out of Melbourne not part of their inner suburbs like Sydney at Bondi or Coogee or Cronulla.

Now Queensland, that is all it has is great beaches, humidity, toads & mosquitos...Ross River Fever & crocodiles, box jelly fish etc. Most hardcore 4x4 drivers in QLD cross the border for great off road fun other than Cape York still the ultimate destination until they manage to have a black ribbon all the way to the top, so you better get there quick. Great fishing up there though they have to have something going I supose to attract people like Glenn (seqfisho)

Mr Dullbird obviously came here from the UK, so Sydney will appear to be cheap in many respects & he should feel quite at home.

I like Sydney so much I'm moving 4 hours out west a 1/2 hour past Orange, to have 4x4 driving in my back yard and the surrounding country some great off roading and fresh water fishing havens that can be had https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

Congratulations & welcome to one of the great world recognised cities & launching pads for the country of true adventure & experience.

Every where you go in Aus has it's own great spots for adventure & touring & 4x4 adventure, there's no other place on earth like it, I've travelled to many of the others, and this is the greatests.

Cheers
Bryce

Fair cop RoverOne,

For the record, I am a Queenslander who moved to Melb from Sydney for work.
I like neither of them.

I lived in Coogee when in Syd and it was ok. Just one thing tho', what is the hype with the harbour?
I couldn't see it or appreciate the views from my house, had to pay $6 per hour parking to do that, I wasn't allowed to fish on it, nor drive my jetski or tinny.
I just don't understand the attraction of the harbour.

I envy your move to the country. Wish my employer would relocate!

Regards
Ralph

Ralph your kidding mate...surely

I've flown over and sailed into many world harbours, there is nothing as beautifull on earth like ours, almost perfect.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>I couldn't see it or appreciate the views from my house, had to pay $6 per hour parking to do that,
only a priveleged few get to see it from home, the bus or train would have been more easier to spend a day on it's shores or on a ferry to Manly etc plenty of water taxi's to take you all over the harbour to any one of a magic place.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>I wasn't allowed to fish on it, nor drive my jetski or tinny.
You would have no problem fishing on it any where anytime, don't understand this comment :? "JETSKI" nothing more than an expensive suppository for hoons to annoy everbody within ear shot & when buzzed by one in the Georges River while stationary I wish I had a GUN https://www.aulro.com/afvb/
I've had a tinny in the Harbour bays & upstream many times :?

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>I just don't understand the attraction of the harbour.
I guess unless you get to spend time around it, on it, accross it or in it, it would be hard to understand, like trying to convince a Toyota a driver he was driving a rusting sh*t box I guess.

Merry Christmas
Cheers
