1996 Defender 110 300 TDi air con - removal of facia

Hi all

Has anyone had any experiance with the removal (and refitting) of the Aussie fitted air con facia in a TDi (TD5 the same)? I need to get to the bolts in the passenger foot well that secure the heater unit so I can remove this but they appear to be hidden behind the condensor.

Its this bit I need to remove....

Surprisingly there does not seem to be anything on YouTube about this.. Appreciate any guidance.

From memory you can remove the heater air box ( engine bay ) to acess the air con bolts ( foot well)

I thought it would have to be the other way around. I didnt think you could remove the heater air box just from the engine side as there are apparentrly two bolts that you need to get to from the footwell? Is there a trick to this?

On mine it was a nut and bolt arrangement.
Can be done without removing the ac.
Took 2 people.
One inside and one in the engine bay.

A ring spanner up behind the condenser from the footwell side will get to them, but its a PITA.

I did this job myself when the door and front fender were off...it was painful.
Best with two people, give the inside job to your mate, as its the worst position of the two [biggrin]
