Hello,

A friend of mine is looking into buying a:

LR Discovery 2001 - Td5 Auto

he found one with only 47'000km! which has never been used off-road!

Has anybody got some experience with these Disco models, what does he need to look for before buying the above?

As I am a Defender driver I have no clue about Discos.

Cheers,
Daniel

Howdy neighbour,

Make sure all the services have been done (ie) service history, and that all the recalls have been done, there were a couple for this model fuel hose rear of motor TD5 and the front doors, the little gismo that stops the door from opening to far breaks and they were recalled to be re-enforced, LR will tell you more, also if he/she is going to be doing any off road stuff you'll need to have a CDL installed as this model didn't have one, if may have the device in the transfer case if your lucky but there's no actuator.

Apart from this the general condition and how it drives is the only other things.

All of the above.

Its a great vehicle to get and there was not that many problems with them. Just thoroughly check the CDL & transfer as there is some confusion about if some models have it or not. To really check you need to get under the vehicle and feel for the lever shaft on top of the transfer drivers side. If its not there, you don't have it. You can also check through the VIN of the vehicle with LR but its more fun getting dirty 8O

Baz....the door problem. My Td5 has all the recalls done but the front doors make a cracking sound when they are opened & closed. I grease the pins and all at every 10,000 k's but they still crack.

Any known solutions?

Cheers,
Lyndon.

My P38A does it on the driver's door. I think there is a TSB that basically means replacement of the door check "strap" on the P38A (not sure of the corect name).

Only that re-enforcing that LR do, ours didn't have this done either and eventually it broke (drivers side) stupid little thing looking at it, with only a spot weld on top and bottom  coarse it's going to break it's just to bloody flimsey.

Who ever designed it should be hung by the goolies

Vida : Did your mate buy this Disco ? Was it from Balmain in Sydney ?

I do not know yet if he bought it - he just left on annual leave on Friday. And I also do not know if this Disco is standing in Balmain or not.

To all the others - he said many thanks for all the input for what he needs to check out.

Cheers,
Daniel
