This topic has been discussed throughout numerous fora, but thought I'd provide some info.

My 130 project reached completion a little under 2 weeks back and during the build I spent rather than skimped on parts.
Every thing ordered was typically genuine or an aftermarket upgrade.
Ie axles, drive flanges, trans hoses.

I ordered a quantity of genuine parts from the U.K. that were stupid price here in OZ
Amongst them I added in a power steering box rebuild seal kit, simply because I was paying freight anyway and the supply was specified as genuine only.
It showed up marked as OEM quality but was not Genuine.

Simply after 50kms ( not thousand) the sector shaft seal attempted to extrude itself past the retainer/wiper and circlip.

It did this because the supplied retainer/ wiper is made of muck metal and too thin section to adequately retain the seal under pressure. The main seal supplied is the genuine part.

I'll pre empt any comments /questions
The box is rebuilt with out loose or worn parts.
The pump is working correctly.
The stops are set correctly.

The comparison follows.

Thanks to Mario and Heather ( Roverlord) for supplying the genuine quality part.

No I did not chew up the failed retainer/ wiper, that's how it ended its miserable existence.

I bet after those tortuos 50km
The very first thing you wanted to do was yank the freaking steer box out!!!!!!

Aaaargh

Reminds me of the time I spent quite a long time rebuilding an R380

Finally stitched it up all gears selectible smooth lovely
Put it to the side of the work bench. The next day I was torquing up the intermediate of the LT230 and socket slipped, I moved uncontrollable, grabbed R380 to catch myself and managed to deposit it onto the shed floor

Faaaark

Case was split - start again

I guess at least you got 50km!!!!!

I feel your pain.....

I think you need to be careful with comments like 'OEM quality', OEM supplier etc. Basically the comments mean nothing but are a way of giving you confidence when you purchase, false confidence unfortunately a lot of the time.
