G'day all,
Just got a new Radio/MP3 player for the Defender so I'm looking for all the do's and dont's when installing? Do you have to diconnect the alarm system when removing the old unit? A nice step by step guide will be great .... TIA
P.S: I've got a 2004 Extreme

I replaced mine and it was pretty easy. No alarm system in mine though.
How many little holes does it have in the front? If there are are four you can use stiff wire to release the brackets, if there are two (as I found out with mine after using brute force  ) you need a jeweller's screwdriver.

no....quite the opposite.....tools of the trade still in my toolbox......
tools of a mis-spent youth were a large screwdriver or a slide hammer....
(but not from my youth.....)

I'm also interested in what's involved as I am looking (eventually) to chage the radio in the Rangie to something a little for modern. However, I think the alarm is somehow built into ore connected with the radio. Anyone shed some light on this ?

there is no alarm on the radios.....
all they had was a security code....
if you are thinking of upgrades to your headunits....
the best idea ive heard these days is a dvd player that plays mp3 format
files....
one or two dvds filled with mp3s should play for a week or or so......
just copy your cds as mp3 files and burn them to a dvd....(i didnt say download....thats illegal.... )
it wont hurt if a disc gets damaged or lost..... :?:

Week or so.
You do waaaay too much driving.

Okay, 25min run from A to B, times 2 = 50min, times 7 days = 350mins, just under 6 hours.
Plus there must be other driving.
Each dvd can hold about 65hrs of mp3s.
Man that's a lot of time sitting at the beach looking good.
Wish I had your life.
