G'day all and best of Australia Day,

I have a restoration project and need to do some welding of L'Rover parts.
On watching a video on the gas welder decided to buy one and give it a go. Never done any welding before and it seems to give a decent penetration and weld but my welding is not consistant. I believe the setting of gas pressures is the most important to get the welder to work well.

Is there anyone around Sydney who has used one of these welders and willing to give me some instruction. Probably take an hour or so. The technique is not the same as a normal oxywelding.

I'm in Fairfield, west Sydney. Willing to drive anywhere for instruction around Sydney to get started in using this welder.

Is this like the Dillon welder that was round about 20 years ago? if it is my ole man knows a bit bout them...

Edit: yep it is , this is what i found online :

"The DHC 2000 (Formerly HENROB 2000 ™) Torch was originally invented by Eddie Dillon an Australian Inventor who, realizing that the conventional oxy/acetylene torch has a very wide heat spread, which heavily distorts the material as well as wasting huge amounts of gas, decided to redesign it. As he progressed with the invention other advantages with the DHC 2000 (Formerly HENROB 2000 ™)became apparent such as its ability to compete with MIG & TIG. "

They are the ducks nuts for land rover work.... hey you dont happen to live near Orange Grove Rd do ya?

It is the Dillon welder (Australian invention) now marketed and owned in USA. as the Henrob 2000.

defenderbilly.
we might be able to help each other out here.
i havent used one but i cant see that it can be much different from
tig and gas welding. you are still mixing gasses to create a liquid
metal pool to which a filler rod would be used.

if you want we could experiment, i assume you have
a manual or vdo for it??

i'll send you a pm.

cheers phil

Discowhite,
Methods covered very well on this web page.

Looks like a great unit for fixing and restoring cars.
Would be happy to try it with someone who can weld just to get started.

I have used Henrob torches for at least 10 years, however not for welding.

I can tell you they are an excellent torch. Well made and very reliable. Maybe a little pricey though at about $500 last time I checked.

I can tell you absolutley nothing about welding.

they are very nice bit of kit, but horribly over priced imho.

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ up a hundred on the last quote i got...

more than twice the price of a decent oxy set... you would want to save a heap of money on gas to pay for it... i used to use the things repairing diecast door handles on the likes of aston martins and other fine equipment...cant be beat for that but they arent twice as good for general use....thats a bucket load of doereme....

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'> but they arent twice as good for general use...[/b][/quote]

and thats mainly what I'd be using it for, although it is cheaper than a TIG for the other stuff I want to do.
Just can't quite come at that moolah for what is an oxy torch, much like the couple of CIGWeld ones I already have.
