Hi
Sorry if this appeared some where else but my post got lost in my room phone
I have a 2014 tdv6 d4
Ths other day I got an alert for engine/transmission
I was towing the van at the time, the car did not go into limp mode
i have had the alert cleared but am concerned I may have a problem i the waiting

Replacing the egr valve is very expensive

one other option is to get a performance upgrade and block the egr

Have other people done this to this model
Being on the dumb side can I ask if I get it done are there negative aspects for the car. This is not a cheap option but a lot cheaper than replacing egr valves

So the codes showed you have a EGR issue?? If not I would suspect the Discos MAP sensor issue when towing - basically when under load like towing MAP is not what the ECU expects and throws up a temporary fault display but clears by turning off - so if not EGR codes present try cleaning the MAP sensor - easily done.

If you shop around EGRs are not all that expensive but getting them blanked with a emulator/remap is preferred.

The code was P0401-00, we had just had the car serviced as well.

Ok that would indicate that one of your EGRs is not opening fully - that seems to be a generic code though - normally the codes should indicate which side it faulty.

While you may have cleared it I know from experience you it is just the start. Try contacting BAS (Bell Auto Services) in the UK who can sell blanking kits etc - there may be local suppliers as well and I am sure someone else can advise on these.

It's my understanding from about 2008 onwards you cannot successfully blank them as it will continue to error as it can detect its been blocked. You have to program it out with a remap or replace the EGR(s) to resolve the error.

Yes and BAS should be able to provide emulators/remaps etc

I'm still waiting for their option to be able to DIY that. Last I read you still had to remove the ECU and send it to them but that might be a 2010 thing.

Not sure about the D4s - certainly for my D3 equivalent RRS I just had to email my map file and they did their thing and emailed it back.

However, if not BAS, there does seem to be a few organisations who can do this work.

It was the right egr

i think there is another thread on the remapping.

is the remapping worth doing, are there any implications.
i am hoping to keep the d4 for quite a long time more, can't afford another one

You could try an induction cleaner.
