Hi,
Just seen a video, with low front door vents, on a S3.
Anyone shed any light please.
Good for getting air around the foot panels.
Thanks.

Best guess would be an aftermarket fit although they were factory fit in some early Rover cars (my 48 P3 has them).

I have seen them, but only rarely. They are not a factory item or an accessory special to Landrovers. In my view, a very poor idea, because they direct the plume of dust from the front wheel into the cab. The ones on early Patrols did exactly that. The ones on early Landcruisers were slightly better because they were partly shielded from the dudt plume by the front mudguards.

I suggest that they might be acceptable in humid areas where dust is uncommon, or when only used on bitumen, otherwise, not much use.

There was a similar thread recently, I found that truck component suppliers have them but they may be on the large side.

Hello from Brisbane.

Those caravan vents are typically installed towards the front of the roof to keep dust out as they are moving along a road. We tended to close them on dirt roads plus had special covers on the fridge and door ventilators to seal the interior.

I had thought of installing some kind of vent arrangement between my roof panel and safari panel but clearance is an issue. The rotary type that were fitted to mini vans and Escort vans might have had a lower profile. However, I may simply leave well enough alone or get new door tops with the dual sliding panels.

Cheers,

Neil

Neil,

IIRC, there are factory vents that are fitted between the roof and safari panel. I think my S3 has 4 of them.

Yes. At least some of the tropical roofs have bulges for them.

I've seen the original FJ land cruiser type footwell vents fitted to landies, used to seem like a good idea when I was doing a lot of highway miles in my series III, those floor panels used to get pretty warm :)

Hello again.

The standard LR spacers when used for the truck cab have less clearance than the regular hardtops which use the roof ribs.

Cheers,

Neil

These (https://www.millsupply.com/hingeless-aluminum-2-way-vent-v648al.php?p=8621#)may be too big, but are aluminium, and two way, so they can open forwards or backwards, to suck or blow.

The RFSV Perenties have them.

You try the part number for those.

I think I watched the same video.

But not for the tropical roof on a ute I guess.

Just had one fitted to my Defender 110, would also work with a SIII. Search the forum for ‘foot vent’ for more info. Dust is not an issue.

There is a Perentie part number for the vent, but it’s actually as illustrated on this thread, and cheaper if sourced directly. You’ll also need a flange to connect the exterior to the interior, we had one manufactured.

I have some brand new ones here surplus to requirements.
I will take a pic of them later.
Cheers, Mick.
