Can anybody give me some advice on how to cut and solder a new fuel strainer at the end of the pick-up pipe in the tank? I would like to get it right first time as I'm a bit short on material. I bought a square foot of material about 10 years ago and put it in a safe place. You know the rest. However I managed to acquire another small piece, just enough for one pipe. I have been using an inline filter at the end of the pipe for a number of years. I would like to hear from someone that has actually done it. Thank you. .W.

I have done a few
I no longer bother as fuel these days seems to eat them
The bottom line is you need to prepare properly
Cut your mesh and tin the edges you are going to solder. Use lots of soldering fluid and clean well afterwards
I found that the tube was very hard to tin correctly
Once everything you need tinned is done you shape it and solder the seams using just enough heat to get the solder fluid
Clean up well and you should be on a winner
Hope it helps

Thank you for your excellent instructions. Did you solder in a separate bottom, or just shape the gauze like a bag ? .W.

Maybe something like this would be the easiest option here [thumbsupbig]

Perhaps - except I'm not sure how you would get it through the hole in the top of the tank - it is only about 20mm across.

yeah that kills a lot of options
i found nylon units with the right ID (8mm from memory) and they were 19mm OD by 38mm long from memory
i fitted them from the drain bung as they slid up firmly but easily..
got lots of filter area that way...
but they came from the US of A
but they work great!

Thank you . No problem. It's for a Series 1 one tank. I can easily get my hand and arm inside. .W.
