Driving to uni today and the clutch decided to no longer disengage.Pedal feels firm all the way to the floor,no leaking master cylinder,no bell housing leak but no clutch.Looks like I'm pulling the gearbox tomorrow. Pat

Probably a damper spring has dropped out completely Pat.. (puma??)
You probably are going to anyway but 100% replace the slave/throwout brg too. There are early and late ones so order according to VIN.

Damn, this is the second time it's done it.The Tdi has had one clutch replacement in 516K,the TDCi will be on it's third after 170. Pat

JC,whats the best replacement?.Valeo seems to be the preferred option but they are genuine from what I can suss out and I don't want to do this again in a hurry.I'm looking at Sachs as my first choice. Pat

Last one i did was an AP i think... There was a few small differences in the tiny antirattle springs near the centre boss but overall looked the same as what I took out....
In all honesty the whole design is pretty average. Plastics (yes there are plastic bushings/ discs where the tiny antirattle springs are...) and mini compression springs that belong in a bic pen have no place in a clutch disc....😒😒

Unfortunately Pat you may still be revisiting it in the future unless someone like clutch industries can make a damper desigb that will last..

Thanks JC,just what I wanted to hear, anyway it's all unbolted after 4hrs and is ready to come out,I don't have a scissor table anymore so it'll have to wait till monday to get it on the deck, there's no rush as I don't have a replacement. Our English brothers are using a clutch called a trucktuff or something like that, might get one shipped over after a bit more research,or go with the Sachs. How's Canberra treating you Rick?. Gearbox is out,one of the friction springs has fallen out,a second one was close to following it,my clutch looks like the upgraded one also.I'm looking at the Britpart HD clutch from the factory 150/170 special edition defenders as a replacement. Pat
